I'd looked into doing this on my old Astra Cabriolet as I'd gotten bored with the V6 engine that I'd fitted.

Anyway, a chap I know from another forum is now in the process of fitting a 5.7 LS1 engine into his Astra Coupe. (same engine as the newer Corvettes/ GTOs and Monaros to name but a few) This is what car modifying is all about to me. Subtle looks and big power! Engine conversions on this scale just get me salivating profusely.

This is how the car started off. He'd modified it a bit. Comes fitted with the wide arch Irmscher DTM kit. Car underneath is a 2.0 turbo.

Looking forward inside the car with part of the bulkhead and floor pan removed.

The whole car is now being rigorously strengthened. Should be finished soon. If anyone's interested, I'll keep this thread updated.

As soon as it's finished, I'll be sure to try and get some pics up and maybe some videos.

blimey...thats very hideous/chavvy looking but The Engine and rwd conversion is fantastic though.

I like the kit (which is what the early Astra Touring cars had). Just not the colour. Anyway, should be an absolute monster when complete.

the styling is not my bag, maybe with a more subtle colour and the removal of the barry chav, shopping trolley spoiler????

as for the engine work thats where it is at keep us posted!!

Would love to see how it performs. Lovely colour, shame about the body kit tho.

Agree with you about this being what modded cars are about Si. Don't know if I'd be playing with an Astra chassis though? Good thread all the same.

very nice bud - keep us updated!

would never have thought youd have liked that kit though!

impressive! if the engine was a bit further behind the front wheels that would be cool... might have to move the dash a bit back for that but it looks impressive

Yeah love to see how this turns out!

Great conversion. Could live with the kit but not with that colour. Kits so lairy it needs a subtle paint finish.

Always wanted to do that with my old Calibra, but could never afford it!

I like the kit too.

Some more pics this is custom made subframe which is unboltable. Not fully welded up, that'll happen when the engine's taken out again.

I would not like to have to take that engine back out. Awsome conversion looks very proffesional just a shame its a vauxhall.
