Sorry to ask a question thats been asked lots before, but ive searched and id just like to clear a few things up;

Easy to fit? Ive read and understand that the hid bulbs go in the normal place and you connect the exisiting wiring to a balast?

What temperature will give the best light for night visibility? 4300k or 6000k?

Some kits mention relay harness with fuses? What are these for?

Uk zeds have something called dip dim? NO idea about this or what it means for me fitting HIDs?

Finally, what do people think of these ive found on ebay?

Thanks all, i need to get my lights sorted as they are really bad (anyone got a guide on how to stirp and clean the zed headlights?)

HIDs are an ace upgrade but fitting wise i have had a nightmare. both my sets are at best bodged into place and the high beam has never worked properly. knowing what i know now i would have fitted 99 spec OEM lights as these are stock fitted with HID lights.

Anything above 6000k and the light is so blue that they are less bright than is useful. buy carefully. I have two sets that are Useless and they were not cheap.

Suprised you had issues, they are just a plug and play affair. What problems did you have ?

HID kits should be straight forward to fit, provided you have been given the right HID bulbs! For both UK and JDM Z32's you'll need the HID bulb type to be H3 - anything else will not fit! Assuming you've got the correct HID bulb, fitting it *should* be straight forward - depending on the kit you buy.

I can only really talk about our own HID kits (Interpower X3) and they are superb! I sell quite a few of them and have them fitted to a huge range of cars (ranging from a Ford Ka, Mazda MX5 to Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari F355 and Honda NSX). Our kit is completely plug-n-play and takes about 10 minutes (either side) to fit. Very briefly, installation consists of the following steps:

1. Remove halogen bulb

2. Install HID bulb

3. Connect the "power" wires to the existing Z32 wiring loom

4. Connect HID bulb to ballast

5. Done!

There is an issue with dim-dip on UK-spec Z32's but there are work-arounds for this (do a search on this forum).

Light output is measured by the amount of "lumens". The higher the lumens, the more light the bulb puts out. The light colour is expressed in "degrees Kelvin". As a rule of thumb, the higher the Kelvin rating, the bluer the light and the lower the lumen rating. In plain English this means that the bluer the light, the less light is projected. It is therefore advisable to install bulbs upto 6000K. If you want to see what these different colours look like in the real world have a look at new Mercs and Vauxhals. Mercs tend to use 4300K HID kits and Vauxhals 6000K. The former is much whiter and the latter has a distinctive blue tint to it.

With our HID kits there is no need to run separate power leads from the battery or to add an inline fuse - all the technology is contained within the ballast. Incidentally, our kits are standard equipment on a lot of new cars (GM, Ford and various Asian makes such as Hyundai and Kia), which is testiment to their quality. They are also E-marked and legal in the UK and EU.

One major consideration to bear in mind before installing any HID kit is to clean the inside of the headlights - this will significantly improve the light projection. Again, instructions on how to do this can be found elsewhere on the forum - just do a search.

I hope the above has been informative - if not, or you want to discuss it some more, feel free to contact me on the number provided below or fire off a PM!

mine were plug and play. superb improvement to standard lamps!

the relay harness is there to take the load off the original lamp circuit. you basically use the old lamp harness as a switch to switch a relay which supplys the HID ignitors directly through a fused lead.

i bought mine through that seller you have listed. they arrived within 3 days, very impressed.

i hav the 10000k lamps, they give a nice blue light, dont know if its the best for driving, but they are so much better than the std lamps its unreal!

Suprised you had issues, they are just a plug and play affair. What problems did you have ?

You would have thought so......... :headvswal

Ok the first set was from the trader who supplied the car. He was on this forum but does not seem very active now !!!!

The bulbs where not the correct type so had to sit in some foam rings wedged into my light housings. Also they have metal cases on the ballast boxes that ryan from Ztech had to wrap tape around in an emergency cause they were shorting....

Then my high beam HID's came again wrong bulb type and running out of time to fit so again wedged them in and they do not work together with the old ones.

I think my original clips to hold the stock bulbs in have long gone so not even sure if I could just plug and play a new set.

Only one bulb will light on high beam :headvswal. You would think that would be because of all the dicking around that has now cracked one of the bulbs. But no if you swap each set they both work fully on low beam and momentarily on high beam so i doubt i will ever have fully working HIDS on full and low beam.

As you can imagine electrics are not my strong point (i will do anything mechanical) but like others it is a poverty of time i have. So I trust my pride and joy and hard earned to others.

My early 300 experience is one of the reasons i am very cynical about 'The trade'. The clown who did first set of HID's also put me on a boost controller that never worked. All in all he took me for about £600 !!!!

Lets say the factory jobs are probably a cleaner install but changing headlights looks to be a real pain.

Are the 99 spec headlights HID on full and main beam?

This is one job where if someone could just come and sort it you would be my hero for life ! Danny how much are your High and low beam kits 6000k spec?

A quick note. like you say UK spec 300's have a Dim-dip circuit built in them. This will cause problems if you just wire a HID kit in. If yours is a UK spec, your best bet is to buy you kit from Luke at the Z-centre.

http://www.zcentre.co.uk

He sells the kit, fitting instructions, and the instructions to bypass Dim-Dip. No one else here does that.

Just a warning.

well having fitted the kit you have listed from the Canadian eBay seller only 3 weeks ago, including the Relay harness to my japTT, it took about an hour (including moding the brackets to fit under the headlight behind the bumper. worked first time, instaling the lamps is no more difficult than changing a standard lamp. the conectors can only really go in one way so its not like you can make it go on fire or something.

Sounds good, think its just this dip dim circuit i need to look at. Fraiser did you feel the relay harness was really needed? The standard zed circuit looks like it should be able to handle a 35w bulb (especially as im using 100w's at the moment)

After searching the dip/dim issue im not sure how my zed is working at all ? I have a uk spec zed from 1990, but witha 99spec front bumper/spoiler. THe sidelights are contained within the "fog" lights in this bumper. Does this mean dipdim shouldnt be an issue for me>? Is there an easy way i can check? ?

Also what sort of temperature have guys been "cooking" the headlights on and for how long? Whats the best thing to use to re-seal the headlight unit after cleaning?
