Today, I hit a pot hole which was unavoidable and it has seriously damaged both front and rear nearside wheels :-(

I'm having the suspension checked out this week for any damage but I think it's okay.

I suspect that they can't repaired and I think that the supplier of the wheels won't have them in stock, if they have even still make them.

So, I'm thoroughly p1stt off and wanted to let you all know the pitfalls of wheels with low profile rubber!!

Steve,

I sense an upgrade coming up here .........

Set of 19's maybe???

steve all wheels are repairable as long as you have not cracked them. if they are not split rims it should be no problem at all.

Steve,

I have heard of curtain dodgy Northerners getting a claim back of the gouvernment for pot hole damage, just take a pic of the holes and the damage to the wheels and write to the gouvernment with a claim. It can work

I feel your pain tho man, same thing happened to me a while back. Caused nice vibrations. But will cost be on replacement.

I think this is a very good point to anyone who is Looking to buy 18" wheels, specially something lick the Racing Heart Tracers or the like that are discontinued.

Make a detailed claim for the wheels and tyres, allowing for wear, to the local authority

I did on my other car 17" wheels and was paid out in full 6 months later from a Scottish local authority. Took a couple of letters to chase it.

Make sure you know exactly where the pothole is and time of incident. This is whey we pay council tax, road tax etc etc.

My car came with 17's from Japan.

I know there is no way I'll get another if/when I damage one.

You have my sympathy.

Thanks guys,

My Z goes in for an alignment check on this week and both wheels are going to be x-rayed for any fractures.

If they're okay then a repair and repaint is possible but if not then I'll have to check availability.

I know it doesn't take too much to damage suspension parts (see earlier post) so I hope it's all okay underneath.

And another thing, make sure especially in cold weather that tyre pressures are as high as they should be. (Boyles law etc cold means pressure falls) These short sidewalls soon disappear on bump and then you are on the bones of your arse so to speak - hence stuffed rims.

Also camber is especially important on 18s and 17s. Again it's a sidewall flex thing - not as much of it available to accommodate excess negative camber. I think this explains the disappearing inside rear tread on my 18" BBS.
