Basically mate,if a seal is leaking,it's fooked!-the only other thing I would reccomend is Forte Seal Conditioner, does work but not in all cases :)

Would a thinner oil not leak more - being thinner it would surely seep through a smaller gap?

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I thougt maybe thnner oil would reduce oil pressure resulting in the oil not be being forced out as much

Ive been told if the mains seal is leaking try only putting 3 quaters of oil showing on dipstick...

Why the fook would you want to lower the oil pressure!

Just get the seal and get it done, its a small problem at the mo that will soon be a big one if you try to sidestep it.

Oil level on the dipstick should be half way between the MAX and LOW not at max as most people put it as when the engine is hot it will be over filled.

Exactly - lowering the pressure will end up causing more engine damage than just having a leaking rear seal.

Think how hot these engines get, in this weather a decent oil is essential mate - oil pressure being too low will kill your engine
