Hi guys

My name is Simon, I am 23 and an alco.....sorry, wrong forum!

Anyway, I currently own a Citroen Xantia Activa, which I am selling in order to own another 300zx, the last one I had for a day and took it back as I was 19 and very silly, and decided I would end up killing myself. Anyway, I wish to get one now...it will have to be a twin turbo, manual, targa top. The thing I am confused about is the difference between LWB and SWB...and which is better?

I am looking to spend around 3k, but could go slightly higher if needed. Any advise would be welcomed, and anyone with a car for sale..... :)

Thanks in advance.

Simon

I am currently reading the buyers guide, but extra advise would be good!

Spending 3k?look to spend nearly double getting it right (unless you very lucky)

SWb -2 seat

LWB -4 seat

They say SWB are more desrirable as more stiffer shell and lighter!

And 'slicktop' -no targas- even more rare and desirable.

manual cars seem to fetch higher prices

So SWB Slicktop,Twin Turbo Sicktop are concidered the rarest and most desirable cars

LWB are generally cheaper-but if you have kids or want to take passengers are a better option.

SWB's are supposed to handle better but you won't find a manual TT one for 3 grand. Save a bit more money and buy a decent one thats been cared for or otherwise you'll be paying in the long run. A chap on here called 'BIRD' bought a cheap one and he's spent over 5 grand trying to put it right and it's still not sorted.

Ive spent 2.5k on mine and its going into garage for more work this week...its going this week to its new owner after ive had all this work done to it!

My best piece of advice is get someone from here (this forum) to go with yo or buy a car from a well known member from here.

Things unexpected do go wrong on even the most well cared for cars but unfortunately when this does happen it can get expensive to sort due to the complex nature of the car.

Hi Simon - you've come to the right place for 300ZX advice!

I would add that the LWB allegedly has better high speed stability than the SWB.

Most / all motorsport 300ZXs have been LWB.

SWB is rarer and fetches slightly higher prices. It is lighter and therefore faster accelerating.

The two have slightly different 'looks' to them - see which you prefer.

Thanks.

So which in your opinion is better? SWB or LWB?

I was wondering if there was a difference in spec between the Uk and Jap TT?

Last year i got a SWB manual TT from Japan imported. All in cost for £5800. Which is a lot more than most zeds but i got a 6 month warranty with it that gave me piece of mind.

Alas there are lots of bad zeds for sale. Often by dodgey high street car sellers. Its a total false economy to get one that has 'a few things wrong'. Get a good one. If you do around 250 miles a week you will spend £5000 a year at least on the fecker anyway hehe.

Really? 5k?

What sort of MPG do you guys get?

Believe it or not, thats roughly what I get from my Activa. Around the 25mpg mark.

Thanks.

People will never agree.

SWB: rarer, cost slightly more in today's market, lighter, accelerate faster, available with a metal roof (slick top) instead of targas.

LWB: better high speed stability, some people prefer the look of them, more luggage space with rear seats folded.

It's up to you - I bought the best car I could find regardless of spec and two-and-a-half years later I think that was right for me.

Oh well, its all good...

there were 2 SWB TT Tagra Tops on autotrader going for 3.5K

If your going to buy one of these it's going to cost you either fuel, repairs (i've had mine 10 months and it's only cost me £35 in repairs) or you will catch the bug like i have.1992 jap spec twin turbo bought for £3000 but i have spent at least £4000 on it but i absoloutly love her to bits. :hyper: :D End of the day you should not go in to it lightly if your struggling to raise 3 and a half grand maybe you should leave it for a bit as you need a money cushion to fall on if need be.Fook it just buy one there great  :D

Thanks for all the advise. I think I am off to see one sometime this week, and all is looking good at the moment. I shall keep you updated, but its a 1993 LWB TT Manual with Targa Top in Grey, and..it is totally standard.

If it is a genuine 1993 car, then it should be a series II, which means no more sh1tty tweed on the interior, better heater system and seatbelts in the right place...

.. yeah thats a great feature. If you dont lock your doors a scumbag can garote you with the seatbelt that is attached to the door lol.

Sound advice on the budget by the lads on here (they know what they are on about)

I paid about £350 for mine (swapped for a gaming PC (I am a MD of a Computer firm)) It needed loads of work auto box, water pump, brakes calipers, tyres and a re-spray (it was attacked by a woman with a plant pot) but the engine was sweet as a nut 60K miles but I have spent about £3000 on it to get it the standard it is now, I did most of the work myself apart for the re-spray so you are looking about £5000 for a decent model even then you might have to spend on tyres, brakes pads etc.. unless your lucky like I was.
