You're a patriotic chap then? :)

Normal transmittion will now be resumed, lets be really patriotic and fly the Union Jack for the next week instead of all this tribalism.

AH...a sensible comment at last. For the last few weeks allI have heard is English newspapers reporting on Scottish people who have apparently said they will support whoever England play. This is nothing but an English newspaper promoting the old rivalry and bigotry that we can do without.....

I am not saying that it is all one sided but the media should know better than to try and stir up old feelings...

It makes you wonder just how many people say the same thing now they are out? AND! if they had stayed then would you be one of those hypocrits that say how proud it is to be english. FFS its a fookin game of football not world war 3. there is nothing wrong with a bit of support for your national team. If it hurts so much turn the fookin TV over.

Didn't watch any of it not interested in it

We started to fly the flag of St George because of Scottish 'tribalism'.

You may have to remind me who St George was???

It is not if you are nder the impression that St George was English....or even existed...>!!!!!!

funny all those who dont like football probably make more posts

saying they don't like it, and ALWAYS stick their scrawny little runny noses in any football posts

and go on and on and on and on............................................

It is not if you are nder the impression that St George was English....or even existed...>!!!!!!

So, are you saying all English football fans must therefore believe in dragons??

You must be a fool!

No, and to answer those posts above. I like football, I was cheering England and thought they were gonna win this time.

And as for calling someone a fool, don't you think that was a bit harsh when you do not even know me? Does that mean I have a right to call you a muppet?

I assume you are not a fool because you can put a coherent sentence together.

My point was, you must be a fool if you think English football fans should believe in dragons simply because they fly the flag of St George!

No, my point was that the majority of English actually believe in St George and have no idea who he was, or wasn't. This is not a dig at English fans, more at the level of education and that fact that we have been forced to weaken our patriotism due to the PC brigade...

I was hoping we'd go through to the final, that way the roads would be clear and I could go out in my Zed while everyone else watches the games!

That didn't appear to work very well around here the roads weren't nice and empty :(

Fair point.

Personally I don't believe in any religion of any kind, so that would include Saints.

That doesn't stop me being proud of my country and it's history though!

I don't hear these arguments when Scots or Welsh or Irish fly their flags (or put those little stickers on the back of their cars).

That's a little hypocritical don't you think?

Not really. All nations have those stickers but other nations dont rely on football to instill a sense of national pride in their population. I live in England so I see it day in day out but I have also lived all over the world and the English seem almost unique in this respect. I blame the politicians though for almost making it a crime....

Why are there no flags on cars on the other channel then?
......but other nations don't rely on football to instill a sense of national pride in their population.

Surely you don't believe that!

Many nations have consciously used sports of all kinds to instill a national pride!

Football is merely the most popular one at present so gets the most publicity.

The Italian Fascists used football to display their prowess and won two World Cups.

The Nazis did the same with football and the Olympics!

The Communists did the same with the Oympics!

Even the Argentinian Junta did it with the World Cup!

Ah but other countries have a sense of national identity, I do not belive that England has that due to the various issues, mainly caused by the PC brigade. You have a right to disagree, but I believe that when things like the world cup turn up, it is a welcome event used to fly the flag. This is a good thing but should be done at all times......we should all do it. If we did then maybe we could all live together and we would have less sectarian violence.

I agree. The English are probably the worst at the 'National Pride' thing.

That's not to say they are not proud of their country but they are pretty crap at thinking about it at any other time than a football game!

BUT, you must remember that the 'Englishness' has been subdued because of the greater pride in the their 'Britishness' for a couple of centuries.

It is only in the last decade that the English have rediscovered their own country.

Previously they were always British.

You can 'blame' the Scots for that one.;)

Why blame the Scots, don't get your point?

The way I see it the national identity has decreased in the last decade due to worries about insulting minorities...
