William,

Here is my story. On the night of 15.09.2000 after a social evening I was giving a friend a lift home at about 1.15a.m. in the morning.

It was a very rough noght with heavy rain etc. Anyway because I was not familar with the area I hit a roundabout and busted the Steering so we had to walk. I left the car in a factory approach road. The next morning at 8.30a.am I telephoned my insurance company, Bell Direct to report the accident, they were pretty efficient at getting a Tow Truck out and delivering my car to an approved repairer's.

Then the fun started, Bell's told me at this time that they like to settle claims "within 28 days of receipt of the claims form" the date was Wednesday, 19.10.2000 for pay out. Inthe meantime my car had been deemed a Total Loss, on Monday 17.10.2000 I taelephoned to enquire about what they were going to offer me and was told £4,650. I immediately rejected the offer and sent as many adverts as I could find showing cars worth £7,500 to £8,000. When no cheque had been receive day the following week I again telephoned to find about what was going on, I was then told my claim was under further investigation due to its "suspecious nature".

After that I had two visits from an independent accident invetigator, he also interviewed my passenger and drove all the way across London to speak to the guy I bought the car from. During this I did not receive one penny of compensation nor one letter from Bell Direct, I even sent a recorded delivery to the Managing Director an dthe compliants department which they ignored for a month. Every time I telephoned to enquire abut progress they were either bloody rude to me on the 'phone or did not return my calls.

In the end I sent another letter informing them that I was lodging an offocial compliant with Lloyds of London their regulators, this prompted a responce from th the compliants department who on 20.12.2000 called me to arrange a settlement figure. The women who rang admitted I had been treated badly by Bell's and offered me £8,000 plus my excess back, £350 as compensation. When the cheque arrived it was for £8,000 - no compensation so I had to ring again and pester them for the £350 which they eventually paid on27.12.2000.

All in all it was a harrowing experience which, because of some inconsistantcy's in my paperwork and information, had me feel like a criminal.

I hope this helps, if you what any other info let me know.

Regards, Hez

this is not related to my z but the car i had before my beloved saph cossie 4*4. while in for servicing at a main dealer eg gordons of bolton some scrote walked in picked up the keys and just drove off in my car. after arguing with the garage that i wasnt going to claim on my insurance as it was clearly their negligence they gave in knowing they didnt have a leg to stand on.i too was offered the pitiful sum of 7 grand and ended up taking them to court they payed up after piccies of the tv dvd etc were sent as evidence total payout 17 grand. so let this be a lesson keep every last bill and piccies of every single mod u do before and after the mod has been done it took me 8 months of getting work involved and courts and even my own mum as she worked for the garage it was stolen from but it was a 10 grand diffrence. i would sooner have kept the car though as it was the only one of its kind in the country but hey it meant that i got to buy my new beast my stonkingly good z

Thanks Hez

What was the mileage on your Z at the time of the accident ?

Cheers

William

The car had done 61,000 miles, I had a partial service history and bills for items I had spent on the car totalling approx £900 and they still queried the value.
