Can anyone tell me if the rear springs on the shock absorbers are still under compression once the unit has been taken off the car? I'm replacing my rear shocks at the moment but don't own a set of spring compressors. Obviously I don't want to undo the top nut only to have the spring fly through the garage roof, taking some part of my anatomy with it :wack:

If its still under compression I'll take the old and new units to the local spanner monkey and get them to do it for me.

Cheers

yes! once you have taken the struts off you need to compress the spring to remove the top mount

you need to compress the spring mate as it is still under alot of tension and body parts will go missing LOL

Thanks for the exceedingly rapid replies guys

Good job I stopped to think about this when stood in the garage half an hour ago :wack:  could have been painful...

Also, if you remove the shock and don’t even touch the springs, you'll more than likely need to compress the spring to the get the shocks back on (assuming standard shocks)
