I am looking for some help as I am new to the world of the 300zx. I am looking to buy my first Z following taking a drive in my friends (Komarme)

The trouble is looking around for insurance. I am 31 with full no claims and despite looking at only driving around 5000 miles per year policies are still coming out at £500+ Is there any advice on the best place to go for insurance?

Also the UK vs import issue. Of all the insurance firms I have tried so far trying to insure a Jap Import puts around £200 on the premium

My friend assures me that the Jap models are better than the UK but does anybody out there with a UK model have a different view?

I'm insured with broadsure direct. I'm paying £500 fully comp on my JDM TT. Next year, it goes down to £450. I have 6 points, full no claims and I'm 27.

UK models when new were better than JDMs as all UK models had leather as standard as well adjustable rear suspension. Also they were all Twin Turbo models.

As far as the cars are today, a lot of the UK ones have high mileage and rust on them. Most JDMs tend to have lower mileage. You get more of a colour choice, body choice and engine choice.

UK spec cars in good condition tend to fetch more. Mainly because they are few and far between. I've seen a few nice 300ZX TT uk specs that are in good condition, such as Glenns and a few others, but have seen a lot more hounds. Some really hanging rusty ones with apauling condition interiors.

Personally, I'd go for a JDM model unless you want to pay extra and spend ages looking for a mint UK version.

Some people have mentioned this JDM vs UK insurance issue. But I'm paying £500 unlimted mileage.....I was paying more for my old car on insurance and that was a bloody Astra!

Wouldnt have said Jap spec were better than uk as its more an individual car by car basis thing.

As for insurance it really changes company to company, adiran flux told me it made no differncfe if it was an import or not on my policy (and i drive a uk car!)

The best thing insurance weise is just keep chipping away until you find a good price in my experiance. As for the cars they are almost the same with some very subtle differences (folding mirrors, no diff oil cooler, slight different auto box functions being the main ones on the japspec ones.)

i drive a jap import and pay £410 fully comp with all the extras i.e breakdown cover and i,c,e cover thats with elephant.co.uk. i have 8 years n.c.d and adrian flux quoted me £1700. £410 aint bad fir the amount of car your getting.

i wont be going with adrian flux again as it seems alot of people get lower policy costs than myself, although i do use my car everyday so have to have around 10k milage wise.

Thats for the info. Are you about the same age as me? I am 31 with full ncb. It is just that elephant wanted a shitload more off of me than £410! :headvswal

i've got a uk spec and whilst it does have a little rust in the wheel arches, i've had no major mechanical problems with it and it's done 98,000 miles but with full service history that you can read.

most insurers charge extra for jap models,if your only doing 5000 miles a year is it being used as a second car,if it is then you should try for a classic insurance. i've got mine insured with adrian flux 416.00 fully comp all mods declared 5000 miles classic insurance and agreed valuation.

you may also find your insurance a little higher for the first couple of years if you've have'nt owned a high performance car before.

I'm 29 and drive a uk model and got my insurance for only £330 with 3 points through carol nash. It took me a long time and a search from york to portsmouth before i found a good one. I looked at plenty of 300's both uk and jap and there isn't a massive difference between them.
