Gotta be the 350Z ... the head of Jun in Japan reckons the engine to tune in the next 5 years will indeed by the renault 3.5 V6!!! And he knows his stuff

Stick a supercharger on and away ya go!

Both would make me feel very grateful to own but I have my heart set on the 350Z. I have been looking at the Monaro too???? But no the 350Z it will have to be. and hopefully before this year is out.

I was speaking to a mechanic from Nissan a couple of weeks ago. He said Renault have bought out Nissan by 51%. I know Renault and Nissan have joined but I thought Renault only bought a small piece of Nissan?

This mechanic did tell me that for all the new Nissans, they now require all new tools as they are using Renault engines etc. If this is true then I feel that is very sad news. He was only a junior mechanic though and so took everything he said with a pinch of salt!

I believe the 350Z was built before Renault got involved so the 350Z still gets my vote!

Why do the French have to meddle?

Also, the New Nissan GTR is due out next year, which is based on the Skyline.

It doesnt have the classic 'RB26DETT' engine, but instead a 3 litre V6 twin turbo. A bit like our Zeds :D

Probably yes.

360 posts over 4 years and not payed up? :nono:

I was a paid member for my first Z, only returned 3 weeks ago and I will pay again (waiting for someone to answer my membership question)

Lol - don't worry - I swore I'd never turn into one of the 'jump down peoples throats to make them join' lot. :duffer:

It is true, Renualt owns enough of Nissan to take control of how it does business. They always had a stake in it, it just wasnt until sometime in the late 90s I think it was which was when they took control. As for the 350Z, that does have a Renualt engine in it and they are going to share parts from what I've heard.

And the new GTR from what I know of isnt based on any of the Skyline of past or present.

the vq35de in the 350z was developed by nissan and is derivative of the engine in the maxima 3.5 (kinda like how the z31 and z32 engines are loosley related). the renault vel satis was first to market with the engine but it was a nissan design.

The renault deal has brought a lot of cross component sharing with the micra, primera and commercial van floorplans and engines but not much else. the nissan FM platform (350z skyline 350gt/infinity g35, fx35, murano etc) is not shared with any renault. also the nissan gtr is an all nissan design.

i think you will find while renault has a 51% stake in nissan, most of it is non voting stock, and renault simply reap the benefits of increased share price and dividends. what they did was plant carlos ghosn in nissan to turn it around. all credit to him though, otherwise nissan may have closed shop.

forgetting the 350z engine, no one can deny its an excellent drivers car, outhandling cars that cost so much more.

but i have a thing for silvias!

Do you have any pics of it Alex? Is it the Skyline? After a quick search i can only find the Skyline 350GT........

It looks a bit yuk, but i'm guessing you can fit 350z front panels on and make it a SkyFifty ;)

Oh and back to the original question, S15 or 350z.... 350z for me. 4 cylinder engines just dont do it for me these days, well unless they rev past 10,000 rpm that is :D:D

All Silvias look mean and moody!!!

As much as I love the look of the 350Z I'd deff have the S15 cause there sooo tunable!!! The japs love em and it's the drifters choice but if I really had the choice I'd buy back my S12 Silvia and do even more mods to it... Spent so much money on that car it was unreall.. 338BHP over 400ibft torque (will look up that figure) and weighed less than a citroen saxo after I stripped it out!!! :D Much quicker than my 400BHP Z..

s12's rock.. mine was only 250bhp and 248ft/lbs of torque and taht was quick enuff its in my sig pic..

luv em..

I guess the S15 is rarer and easier to tune.
S15 is definitely rarer, no doubt about that. I haven't even seen one in Britain yet.

When it comes to tuning, I presume you could use a lot of the tuning parts and know-how that is around from previous models.

BUT, it is getting easier and easier to find tuning parts for the 350Z.

Fit a supercharger and you're away

The 350Z is soooo much better looking, handles like a dream and has Z car heritage. It gets my vote everytime...

yep thats it mate - in silver

i think in the us they called it the g35 - in japan they called it the 350GT - either way its the new skyline

i could take pictures on monday if you want - it isnt far away

regards,

alex

The S15 uses the same engine as the S14. It's a turbo and I bet it'd be really easy/cheap to tune. I bet someone like Norris Designs could get it up to big power quite easily.

The 350Z would be more expensive to tune. But I like it!

There's always the DC5 Integra but I'm not sure how comfy that would be on a long run.

Alex, thanks for the offer of the pics :duffer: , but I understand what car you saw now, so no need.

Many thanks. :)

v true - knowm a bloke whos supercharged his 350 and has thrown silly money at it - to reach 400bhp.

he's also had huge problems with the mapping, but how much of that is down to the people doing the work i dont know.
