Hi all,

I've been told my cams are fecked.

I'm having the bottom end rebuilt but need to replace these or repair them i'm not sure what state they are in.

If i was to buy new cams can you recomend a good all rounder, better performance while still being drivable.

Is there another option? or just buy new ones?

Thanks.

I'd say it would depend on your other mods as well, and what you want to achieve. You could get extreme ones that are good at higher rpm but they would be very lumpy at lower speeds and not very drivable. The 'fast street' driving type ones are the choice I suppose if you really want to uprate these, these will provide better timing for the higher revs, but not so extreme that it makes it un-comfortable at low revs. I'm not sure its worth it unless its as part of an overall engine upgrade where you sort a lot of the other things out as well to give higher performance. What are your other plans for the engine? are you uprating the internals when you have the bottom end done? worth doing if you are spending the money. Then you could think about porting/polishing the heads, and will have a setup that will be ready for uprated/bigger tubs in the future. In the meantime you'll have a bulletproof and reliable engine as it will be built to take much more stress.

What I am sure of though is that someone will come along who knows a lot more than me about the subject lol :)

This is what i'm planning on getting for the engine over the next few days.

Wiseco 88mm pistons

Eagle rods

Toga bearings

Toga oil pump

new gasket set

ARP bolts

60k kit

uprated engine mounts

egr bypass kit.

The plan was to do the head at a later date but due to the condition it has to be done now which i'll have to find some extra dollar some how for. :headvswal

The head is in a rather bad mess too and this needs either replacing or mechaning.

There was talk of a Skyline or 200sx engine but that's not what i want really.

I have a spare set of stock ones somewhere ...

I would recommend upgrading but if you're running short money wise you could leave the head/valvetrain upgrades till later

Stock cams or heads?

how much would you want for them?

Cool how how would you want for them?

Someone on the forum is selling some ported and polished heads, might have to ask dad for a mini loan :x:

no idea what they're worth. Once you know if you need them PM me and we'll go from there

Saw the condition of my cams and apparently they are border line to being machined or not.

The wear is on the shaft which sits in the head where they make contact and rotate.

The thing is though if i had my cam everso slightly machined and the head then surely the head slot would be slightly bigger and the cam slightly smaller, if it isn't still within tolerance is there anything else i could do???

It was really good last night as Mark was pulling my engine about explaining how it works and what the problem was, so i actually understood what i just writen above :D
