Guys you've done a first rate engine rebuild for me. Very impressed. It's even better than when I first bought it.

Just got back now and it ran faultlessly all the way back. Even the idle issue is now sorted. Just some running in to do now. But I'm driving it like I did before the rebuild...it's the same style of driving! LOL

Can't get over how smooth the engine is. It was smooth before hand, but now, it's just lovely.

It's so nice to have the thing back, even though (like I always am) I drove home like an old git!

The exhaust is still as clean as it was when I left your place!!!!

out of interest, I have been reading this : http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm - I make no recomendations myself though!

p.s I hope it is better than when you bought it, it had a knackered engine back then !

No when I bought it, it ran very well, just had an idle issue. Engine was very very good and everyone used to compliment on how smooth it was...well, it's even smoother now!

Cheers for the linky.

I dunno yet. Running it in. But Jason (Yami) says it picks up better than his car.

just read link.the last engine i did was for a guy with a 200sx.he drove it like he stole it the minute he got it back.start as you mean to go on he reckons!!.and i have to be honest it hasnt suffered one bit.id have liked to have made a sign for your back window si saying RUNNING IN like old coffin dodgers always had on their morris marinas.

I like it jimmer!!! thanks Si for the praise but all in a days work, well may be a bit longer lol, it is a shame everyone cant be happy for you just to have it running again the power is there believe me and your engine did run very well when we first met you,it even did till its last dieing day everyone needs an opinion though! all I can say is NEXT lol

Jason

As everyone probably knows Yami is my wife before the confusion starts no she doesnt rebuild engines lol me and Jimmer do that part Sharon just spends the money lol

Being an old coffin dodger myself, the reason why engines had to be run in then was because manufacturing techniques were pretty basic and tolerences for fit rather large, a bit hit and miss really. So garages / motor manufacturers tended to go for the top end of the fit, i.e.TIGHT, and by driving it steady and not under too much load, gave it chance to gently wear and settle down to normal running clearances. Despite that old engines did not last long, usually 50 to 60K miles. You were thinking about head off and decoking at 20K miles. Today all is changed, better machining, better materials and better cleaner fuels. You don't hear the word 'decoke' any more except if your an addict of course, slightly different. But you do just have to be a bit reverent when you are putting new bits in an old block, it does need some time to settle in, and its probably best in a high compression engine to take it steady for a 1000 miles or so.Looking forward to seeing you in the 'was it you' section Si, now its back on the road.

Cheers guys! Been driving it about a lot this evening. Done a nice long run, must be about 100 miles today I guess and it's not skipped a beat. Smooth as anything. Taking it 'oh so steady' none the less. I drive it very conservatively anyway, more so now.

Have brought it on boost every so slightly a few times and it feels strong and responsive. :)
