I know, I know, the law is the law but come on.......

My work mates brother has been pulled this morning by the police in Barnsley for having a slogan on the bottom of he's number plate fined £50 and they followed him home to make sure he didnt use the car on the road again until the slogan was removed (new plates fitted). Now this must equal getting nicked for eating a mars bar whilst driving?

Some of you may think this is OK me I think they should get a life and concentrate on real crime.

If the slogan wasn't getting in the way of the Reg, and the Reg lettering was of the correct size, IMHO cann't see what they have to complain about.

aren't you required by law now to have the postcode and name

of the shop you get ya plates made up at, on the bottom. or sumit like that.

therefore no room for slogan. I could be wrong here tho

But yes this is a complete JOKE, fookin anything to meet the quota init

Well apparently the copper did say that you are allowed to have a garage name on the bottom. The stupid thing is he had he's own company name and phone number and he asked if it was because of advertising and the cop said no?

It is all to do with the size of the letters and the slogan has to be a certain distance from the letters....

If you were in the wrong, then you can't complain..

Where are all these rules listed?

There is nothing in the MOT rule book about it. it would legally pass an MOT so why is it wrong?

MOT doesnt even state a size for the letters only that they have to be the same size and constant thickness. ie no script or italic letters.

When rules are changed is it not so that only cars built or sold as new from that date must comply. How can they insist that every one be forced to change something on a car just to comply with new regulations.

Do we have to have cats on our older cars? No!

Do we have to have yellow plates on cars older than 1972, No!

If thing must be changed, how do we find out about them?

Is it only when some one gets stoped that we find out..

Chris..

could not agree more they are always changing the laws on motoring stuff but tell no one the only way you find out is when your stopped and done for it, complete farce to make the government more money

Its all to do with the right amount of reflective area around the letters .Its all to do with the new number plate reconition systems so the cameras can see the plate clearly.

I got told how my plate was illegal by a guy in an MOT station I borrowed a spanner off whilst changing my alloy valves yesterday. Won't be using that MOT place then!

you can always tell a copper

It says 300zx twin turbo targa on the bottom of my number plate and has been so for at least 7 years. I don't know when John who I bought the car for had it put on the car. So when did this law come into force? Cos mine were legal and met the law at the time and therefore still do.

remember the old skinhead tatoo's......"ACAB"

exactly!

lol

sa far as i know u can put wot u like at the bottom and at the end ie euro as long its not insulting or bad lang! a copper will av u for that

agree with mark - the plate only has to comply with the laws AT THE TIME IT WAS MADE. i.e. now it must have the manufacturers details at the bottom.

Was it you the other day heading towards Mold on the Denbigh road?

Just say it was like that when I got the car, or failing that get a plate with no border or info and say you had to cut the plate to fit.

you can always tell a copper

Obviously........I am an IT Consultant...PMSL.... :D

I got pulled the other night for being a bit too throttle happy out of a junction.

The copper said that my front number plate was too small (which it is) and also the lettering on the rear plate was too small (which i hadnt noticed).

He never gave me a ticket or even asked me for id! I could have been anyone!

So i take it that was my first warning and nect time it'll be a fine?!

Was it you the other day heading towards Mold on the Denbigh road?

nope - but i'm hoping to be back n the road before the end of the month!!!

I am registered to make no plates ie We have a License and Reg no logged with DVLA

I think you will find as long as the font used on the plate is of the legals size etc the only other restriction is that the "personalised" portion of the plate must be no more length than "168mm x 20mm" any text in this area is to be non offensive and must include the plate manufacturers post code ! The plate must also bear the BSAU mark but that is not included in the designated are, that is usually printed on the acrylic somwhere. The law on plates is a mine field and will get worse. IE: Full Vin no will be on ALL no plates in the near future, it was to be law this year but has been relaxed fro a short while ?

Hope this helps a little !! :headvswal

One thing the Americans have got right - we should do away with front number plates like they have!
