Might be a silly question but why is the club buying servers.. surely thats down to the hosting co? or am i missing something here .. apart from my marbles :D

its a colo server, club owned, so infact the hosters (me) are going out of our way by dropping the usual £150 an hour contractor fee to get it fixed ;)

its more a discouragement fee so we don't get bundled fixing dozens of problems on kit we don't buy,

it actually took about 2 huors but i was doing many other things, server needed a mem test which showed its memory was duff, one stick removed and then another test to check the one left was good, which it was,

hopefully it will fix the problems, if not then the server will be going on a trip to middlesex to be repaired, but i always arrange temporary hardware for the club so the site won't go down

it started life on a dell 486 with 16mb, then moved onto a p166 with 128mb...

moved onto decent hardware when it moved colo from my ex-employer to mike, after starting subscriptions/contributions to fund the upgrade

never was a fan of being at the mercy of the other tenants on a server....

but things have changed nowadays

ah yes, while we were waiting for some "other issues" to be resolved....

b19rks, yes there is life after the forum, but its damn slow.... ;)

selling my zed was the best and worst thing i ever did, and still regret making the right decision at the time !!

With the amount of subscription fees that must have been collected, I assumed the club would have been able to buy its own Cray by now! :nelson: ;)

And Hi Craig. :D
