ok i'm going to explain this as mechanically as possible... bearing in mind im a girl!

AND IF ANYONE SAYS - girls shouldn't drive.... I'll smack u! :slap:

Whenever i like stick my foot on the brakes, there is a funny noise like a creaking, rusty strain on an old rusty spring or like a fat ox walking on a floor board... its really creaky, and the harder i slam the brakes, the less noise, but when i do it slowly its loud and very creaky...

the car has recently passed its MOT (in March) so i very much doubt its dodgy brakes, but who knows...

is there some other part i should get checked out - could it be the pedal ?

I don't have a clue, but I like the description "fat ox walking on a floorboard" Where you driving along one day and thought...that sounds just like a large bovine mammal walking on a creaky floor - random!!

P.S. I think more girls should drive sports cars, not 1.1 fiesta's with pink steering wheels and seat covers.....you dont have those on your Z do you?

Hunnipie, could be a couple of things:

If the noise is not speed dependant:

(1) Brake Pedal pivot is dry and is creaking, look in the footwell and see the point where the breakpedal pivots about, if you can access it try a few drops of oil either side of the pivot bolt.

(2) Brake master cylinder plunger is dry, the noise will be more noticable with the bonnet up.

(3) Brake booster movement from the bulkhead, get some one to press hard on the brakes and look for the booster moving

(4) Brake booster hose leak - would be more of a hissing noise nad the car would be prone to stalling if you presssed hard on the brakes.

If the noise is speed dependant

(1) Brake shims, there are quite a few shims and ckips which if they are caked in brake dust and dry (from coppaslip) will make a screeching noise

(2) Brake pad wear indicators - some brands of pad have metal prongs which touch the brake disk when the pads are worn down past a couple of mm and make a noise when you are breaking.

Hope this helps, M

oh god no, the only accessories i've stuck in the car since i got it, was a 'babe' air freshner plate thing (halfords) a momo gear stick, the speakers, sub apms and my england flag on the back seat.... :hyper:

P.s... thanks marty, will look into it (when the car is drivable again

No bother

The noise is coming from the calipers, park somewhere quiet and open your window, or get someone else to pump your brake pedal when listening to the wheels.

It isn’t related to shims/copperslip or lack off’ as I have brand new everything, factory shims, factory copperslip, Porterfield pads and DBA disks, the only old element is the caliper and pistons.

Southwestzmech suggests that a caliper overhaul kit might fix it and was planning to do a group buy. Sounds like there will be a lot of takers!
