I spent some more time under my Zed this weekend and found out that I have had the cats removed :hyper: one less job for me to do.

Anyway I am concerned about the legality. My car is a 1993 series II so Firstly, is it legal for me to have no cats?

Secondly, I believe de-cat pipes are the replacement part of the exhaust where the catalytic converters used to be. - Is this correct?

Thirdly, what are cat backs? where do they go and do they improve performance?

Thanks, Mike...

Mines the same year as yours and no problems. I think its the next year where they do the more stringent tests?

Yes

the part of the exhaust after the cats is 'cat-back'

getting less restrictive back boxes and/or removing the mid box will increase performance

if its a import they dont test them for cats....... just dogs mice and the occasional chicken....

Thanks, that helps a lot.

I just got confused by the terms.

LOL

SO - I know I will probably get away with it BUT - Where do I stand with the long arm of the law?

Assuming the Law chose to check then you could be in trouble. If a car has cats then it's illegal to remove them as far as I know.

personally, i dont see what harm it is as long as it passes an MOT. but i dont know how that stands in the word of the law
