Maybe a silly question, but only had my Z two months and it’s my first tbar/convertible etc. I went to the local Tunbridge Wells B&Q today, like most places a scorching hot days, the targa panels were in the boot, but I thought that it was a real pain to get them out and fit them, only to remove them 20 minutes later.

I’ve got a Cat 1 alarm, and it auto immobilises, but I didn’t set the alarm element as I suspected that the interior sensors would pick up exterior movement/wind whatever and set the alarm off.

Now I’m not saying that there are no car thieves in Tunbridge Wells, but in the past and in differing parts of the country I have seen many a convertible parked up with the owner out of sight in the past.

So:

1) who always but always puts the targas back on if the car will be out of sight, even for 1 minute (ie park round the corner and pop in to a newsagent)

2) who weighs it all up and looks at how long they will be and the place/area that they have parked the car?

3) Who routinely leaves the targas off for extended periods when away from the car?

always put em on, only takes a minute for some tosser to throw somat in your pride and joy, it only takes a minute to put the tops on anyway

Yep always put the targas back on. Only when i go to KFC on a work monday lunchtime do i leave them off and then my zed is under my hawkish look.

Yeah, I usually put them on. BUT I did go to the same b&q the other day and left them off :).

I cant even leave my window open a little bit or the alarm goes off. I found that out at the JAE last year. But yes! not a good idea to leave anything open these days. Some W4nker will do something horrible.

targas off and windows up today, got back to car and chavs hagging around it but comments like cool and better car that mate did no harm.

Oh it's Back from bodyshop pics to come. (and it looks tight)

I leave them off if I feel I can my alarm is pretty good and has never gone off as a false alarm while they are off, the fitter recommended a different type of interior sensor as it was a targa top and the second any puts an arm inside the car it will go off, wouldnt leave them off anywhere too busy as you know some scum is going to love flicking his fag end in there if he can.

I leave them off. Not too bad up here and most of the local chavs know or know-iof me and wouldn't try anything. My alarm doesn't have ultrasonics, just door, boot and (sensetive) shock sensing. I also have the added security of a paging system so if anyone so much as looks at my car the wrong way I can sprint in a Hoff-Baywatch style out of B&Q and then collapse on top of them in a physically exhausted state after over-doing the running thing!!!

I leave mine off, my alarm covers the inside tops on or off.. and it is never very far away with the tops off..

always put mine on. i see mercs etc. in car parks for long periods of time with their roofs down. cant understand how theyd risk it! not just stealing the car, but leaning over and cracking open the glove compt, or ripping a seat, or throwing something unpleasant inside.

As this is my first summer with my zed i am now taking the targa tops of rather than using the air con. I dont think my air con is broke it just is too extreme with 'ECON' off. Pumps out really cold air and when i want something a bit less i put ECON on and its not enough to keep the cabin cool, the heat creeps up.

well i leave my car to run for 2 mins to let the turbos stop spinning so by time i have messed aroung with the roof its time to switch of the ignition

Option 2 here........

I just think how long I'll be and where it is parked - same with the roof on the SLK. Near home I have no worries as people tend to respect nice cars here......

However in really hot weather I prefer to leave the roof in place and keep the a/c set low and cold ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i tend to leave mine off, take the face off my headunit and leave it there, but only if its somehwere local etc. what worries me more is the times ive had to leave it in a car park overnight with the roof ON in town, so many pissed up people about i spend all nite worrying if some coont has keyed it
