I went for alcantara as well, to me its a lot better than leather and offers a bit of contrast as well, definately a lot easier to work with.

it's not too bad - main problems are the stitching on the door curves and the curved panels in the back are a bit of a pain to get right - but alcantara does 'stretch' a lot more than you (or at least i) think!!!

i got 2.9m of alcantara for £7 and £5 delivery off ebay.

I have black leathr and black alacantra in my MR2 as standard and have ben toying with a full retrim in leather but now you have made me think if it's a beetter move to use Alacantra now...

Thats a very neat job done there..

To be honest, I used a copy of it (alcante i think it was called!)... basically so if I ****ed it up I could try again without too much expense! The fake stuff was just under £20/ metre mark, but is stain resistant and can be cleaned with upholstery fluids so it is better than the £2/ metre suede you see.

Alcantara is £££££ and very difficult to get hold of in small amounts, although some boat upholstery places seem to stock it.

i just wouldn't be able to part with £120/metre for the real alcantara.

i used imitation stuff in my last car, still cost £35/metre, it was good stuff though.

i'm thinking about retrimming the top part of the dash as its just started to peel, is this a difficult job?

I was told when I did mine to stay clear of cheap alcantara as it is known to rot and either choose top quality (expensive) alcantara or the cheap imitation.
