Hi all,

Anyone had a problem with white smoke on idle? I know this would normally be some sort of condensation but the car is fully warmed up and it'll suddenly bellow out white smoke :(

Cheers

Vijay

Don't try and start it again, if you've got white smoke coming out of the exhaust it will be a knackered cylinder head gasket. The head gasket is allowing water to fall into the piston chambers, be detonated and come out as steam. If you try and start it again you can destroy the piston and seals.

It's gonna be expensive.... Sorry.

:(

Headgasket

Cracked block/head

Turbo Oil seals (they can burn white)

Has she overheated at all lately ?

Get a compression test done.

if your saying the car is at working temp and not running hot and only happens when on idle say after 20/30/sec like the time spent sitting at traffic lights then its more than likly your turbo seals,im sorry to>

This is exactly what i,m getting , sit at the lights , fully warmed up and occasionally i,ll get a puff :x: of white ,not grey , smoke from the n/s zorst. A workmate followed me the other morning and as you do i had to press the GO pedal ( i know , show off eh :smash: ) he said when i floored it there was a quick puff os smoke but only when i initially hit the excelerator and it was white after that it was clean

Now my way of thinking would be that if the seals were on there way out it would smoke more under boost , as you,ve got the high pressures being forced into the plenum carrying the oil seeping past the seals , also your oil is being forced past the worn seals cos you revving the engine hard and the pressures are higher

Did my PCV,s the other week so i know their sorted

HELP it,s doing my tree in .

Sorrey for hijacking your thread Vijay but it sounds like were in the same boat bud

So how expensive is it to rectify turbo seals ?

new or reconditioned tubs, engine out :(

Its so hard to diagnose but what you gotta remember is the oil that is leaking out of the turbo seal into the engine on tickover is being sucked through.. But when under boost that side of the turbo is pressurised so the seals are pressurised back causing them to seal. briefly of course. Thus giving you false symptoms.

By the way I can do a set of re-con tubs for £1200 fitted.

Just for info lol :)

TBH the best thing to do would be to get a compression test carried out as Legrath said. :smash: But on the water system to see if you have a gasket or cylinder gone.

Vijay, most likely it's just condensation, but to be safe it's best is to keep a close eye on the coolant level and temperature the coming weeks.

you will be surprised how long water/condensation will sit in the exhaust for!it can some times sit in there a fair old while even when up to temp, then just bellow out

so try not to get to carried away with what people have said above!if your worried do a test on the HG
