Hi,

As you can see from my username I work for Jtuner magazine, hopefully you’ll be aware of the magazine by now and the ‘thrash’ type feature we run each month. For those of you who haven’t seen it, we get eight owners together for a fourteen-page feature in the magazine highlighting the tuning potential of a certain model.

So we’d like to get eight of you to come to Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire for a day with the timing gear and a two-mile straight…

First thing to say is that it’s a no stress day out, we attach Datron satellite activated timing gear to the car and you have four attempts at getting times you’re happy with from a standing start, these are in succession and there isn’t time to swap gear between cars and runs I’m afraid. It’s up to you how hard or easy you want to take it, we record 0-60, 0-100, ¼ mile with terminal speed and top speed.

The main emphasis of the day is to show you the owners and your cars in a positive way, encouraging non-owners to read and learn more about your chosen Japanese motor.

So, here’s the deal.

*Aside from any travel expenses you might incur the day is completely free for you. We pay for the track and timing gear.

*We are strictly limited to one car on track at any time and eight cars on track in a holding area plus our own. So no spectator cars, support vehicles etc. No exceptions.

*We deliberately book these days with short notice so people don’t build or modify cars especially for the day, sorry if that doesn’t fit in with you personal circumstances but there will be further opportunities in the future.

*Bruntingthorpe has a strict noise policy in place, with an 89Db limit at 4000rpm. If you have a very noisy exhaust it may be worth doing something about it before coming. We have had 600-800bhp turbocharged cars go through okay, so it’s not as strict as you may think.

*We will be on track all day, 9.30am start, there is a café and toilet located at the other end of the track, but this is two miles away. So come prepared with food and drink.

*It might sound stupid, but you will do upwards of 17miles on track, so make sure you’ve got enough fuel, including getting to the nearest petrol station when leaving (it’s ten miles to some Optimax)

Right, if any of that sounds appealing we’ve got a date, and it’s next week… Thursday the 15th. So what do you say? Anybody game for it? Eight cars would be great…

Here’s a link to Bruntingthorpe’s website, so you know where you’re going.

I hope this is of interest to you, we’ll all be there and look forward to meeting you. These days are our highpoint each month as they’re always good fun.

Cheers, Bryn

Cheers for the words matey! glad you guys had a goodun as well. What was the name of the guy who was a master detailer? I need to find out the stuff he was using as I've forgot. He gave me his username but I forgot that as well! :( He did some magic with his potions! I've signed up to your forum but it doesn't work yet.

Dave (the one who got a little excited trying trying to drift at the end!)

Thanks for letting me have a go in your car chunk I owe you one. Nice to catch up with everyone. just got in about 30 mins ago. Went to bloody LONDON nearly lol

Yup I'll second that.....look like you guys were having fun out there drifting and doughnutting at the end of the day ;)

Didn't run myself as I was on holiday when Bryn invited us all to this great day, but I still really enjoyed myself as I believe everyone did that attended, it was just a shame we had a couple of breakages one of which being the most powerful GTO's of the day and was looking to be in the 11's ... knowing Mark though it won't be long before its running 100% again and competing at TEN of the Best again this year.......talking of which, it would be nice to see some of you guys there, I'm sure you have got some cars worthy of that....

Anyway good to meet you guys today and look forward to doing it all again some time.

cheers Martyn

Just let us know the details bud im sure we could muscle up a few lol

Hi guys,

Thanks for showing me how donuts are supposed to be done, I guess 4WD and no turbos isn't a great starting point. I don't think I'd fancy driving a Zed in the rain!!!

Steve

Firstly, HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE thanks to Bryn and the Jtuner team, most excellent day and very well organised

Big thanks to our cameraman aswell (who's name slipped my mind :o, but he remembered all ours, hats off just for that), you were fantasic fella, placing everything on my car carefully so you didnt scratch or damage your camera etc, oh and my car  Top job

Also a big thanks to the guys that did all the timing gear, excellent work, but you didnt make me look very fast :D Hope to see you again soon

And lastly, Very nice to meet the guys from the GTOUK club, your cars were very well presented and the 0-60 times impressed me, the doughnuts didnt thou ;)

My times were expected to be the slowest and i didnt dissapoint, with a........

0-60 of 8.2

0-100 lost count after 20secs

1/4 mile 16.2 @ 87mph

and a V max of 129.1mph

There are no racing/bullshit excuses, my car is just slow :D

Had a good amount of drift/doughnut fun at the end of the day, i think i used 50% of my new falken 451's in 5 mins

I didnt take any other Z times down im afraid, but they were all a dang site faster than me LMAO!!

Thanks again to all for a flappin great day!!

Rich

Thanks fella, was a pleasure to meet you, hopefully see you at the pod/JAE??

Thanks

Rich

It was a good day, even if I was only there for the end bit. Good to see old faces, and meet a few new ones.

wow what an amazing day!!! i think i can speak for all of us when i say we had a good laugh, a good thrash and plenty of piccies taken by the J-Tuner guys. Many thanks to Bryn and the team for inviting us and making us feel welcome. Great to meet some of the GTO boys too - top bunch (hope the black GTO gets fixed soon).

my times were very disappointing :( my clutch just couldnt cope with it - i think i left a trail of carbon on my first launch, and on all the runs after that it would slip at the top of every gear :headvswal time for an upgrade perhaps ;)

cant wait to see the mag - ive flicked through the free edition they gave us on the day and there's some great coverage of the Skyline thrash - each car should get at least half a page :hyper:

oh and i got a few clips Nick, couple of launches, a panorama and T-Pot doing a few donuts. i was enjoying watching Chunk tear up the tarmac so much i forgot to record it :( but i think everyone else was

Brill matey, the more clips the better. I've got a load from Japfest BBQ, Japest, The Northern Meet and a few others so once we meet up and do some driveby shots on the open country roads i've found i'll be sorted then just got to edit them all together in a professional stylee   :(

As already stated above top day really enjoyed it even though I broke my car (Red GTO) :o

I’ve had a look today and it’ll all be fixed tomorrow morning, I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the damage, luckily I have spare for the two broken parts.

Went to Leicester with PJ & Legrath to pick up my new engine (thanks Yaseen) only to find out all you guys were just down the road having fun and frolics on that airfield. Great afternoon and good to see everyone again. Here are a few pics I took on my phone.....
