Hi,

As you can see from my username I work for Jtuner magazine, hopefully you’ll be aware of the magazine by now and the ‘thrash’ type feature we run each month. For those of you who haven’t seen it, we get eight owners together for a fourteen-page feature in the magazine highlighting the tuning potential of a certain model.

So we’d like to get eight of you to come to Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire for a day with the timing gear and a two-mile straight…

First thing to say is that it’s a no stress day out, we attach Datron satellite activated timing gear to the car and you have four attempts at getting times you’re happy with from a standing start, these are in succession and there isn’t time to swap gear between cars and runs I’m afraid. It’s up to you how hard or easy you want to take it, we record 0-60, 0-100, ¼ mile with terminal speed and top speed.

The main emphasis of the day is to show you the owners and your cars in a positive way, encouraging non-owners to read and learn more about your chosen Japanese motor.

So, here’s the deal.

*Aside from any travel expenses you might incur the day is completely free for you. We pay for the track and timing gear.

*We are strictly limited to one car on track at any time and eight cars on track in a holding area plus our own. So no spectator cars, support vehicles etc. No exceptions.

*We deliberately book these days with short notice so people don’t build or modify cars especially for the day, sorry if that doesn’t fit in with you personal circumstances but there will be further opportunities in the future.

*Bruntingthorpe has a strict noise policy in place, with an 89Db limit at 4000rpm. If you have a very noisy exhaust it may be worth doing something about it before coming. We have had 600-800bhp turbocharged cars go through okay, so it’s not as strict as you may think.

*We will be on track all day, 9.30am start, there is a café and toilet located at the other end of the track, but this is two miles away. So come prepared with food and drink.

*It might sound stupid, but you will do upwards of 17miles on track, so make sure you’ve got enough fuel, including getting to the nearest petrol station when leaving (it’s ten miles to some Optimax)

Right, if any of that sounds appealing we’ve got a date, and it’s next week… Thursday the 15th. So what do you say? Anybody game for it? Eight cars would be great…

Here’s a link to Bruntingthorpe’s website, so you know where you’re going.

I hope this is of interest to you, we’ll all be there and look forward to meeting you. These days are our highpoint each month as they’re always good fun.

Cheers, Bryn

Keeping my post count up... Barbeque would be a good idea. The Jtuner catering unit may well be in attendance (dodgy barbie and gazebo...) but bringing your own would be a good idea. You'll see what I mean when you get there, but there's feck all around and it's easier to stay put when we're in place...

yeehaa!, looks like the Zed will be getting a proper outing this summer after all. Bugger need some new rear tyres! Best go and beast whats left of the overdraft. Be good to meet some of you mids boys.

I did Luxembourg city to Calais in three and a half hours in a 300ZX... On bald rear tyres. The way I figure it they're almost slicks, and racers use slicks!

Note - The opinions expressed by Bryn are not those of Jtuner magazine, infact sometimes he just spouts a load of old... :wack:

haha ,fair point, but the fact that I also seem to have a sticky valve that gives me a flattie once in a while probably wont be too safe for a top speed run!

Edited comments about Jtuner due to creeping cover alert!

Sounds like it should be a great day! Gutted I can't be there :( Have a great one fellas!

I'm chuffed this has come up actually as I subscribe to Jtuner. I havn't got much time for any of the other mags, too much show and imaginary figures

Nice bit of creeping there Dave. I still dont reckon you will make the front cover tho!!!!

Cheers Pete! No way I'd make the front cover anyhow, you can see more polyurethane on my front bumper than paint

If it's not too late I'd love to join in the fun :)

I'd need to know by Monday though so I can book the day off lol!

think theres only 8 places mate

Just a thought for those who are attending, on the day we'll be issuing forms for you to fill out with a spec list of your car. If you want to save some time and/or hovering about scrounging a pen and perching on your bonnet, you could always print it out at home with a power/torque figure indicating whether it's estimated or not.

All mods that is, over standard with the exact year and model of car so I can match them up at home.

Cheers! :duffer:

err are you sure youre not from the insurance?

Yeah, last time I checked. Pretty sure that insurance companies don't ask eight magazine readers along for a day out on a test track... 'Cos if they did I'd be happy paying up each year!

BASTEWARDS BARSTEWARDS BARSTEWARDS and FOOKFOOKETYFOOKFOOKFOOK

HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THIS

Wish you all luck with this guys, and hope you all have fun on the day.

I'd of put my name down for this, but I doubt that they would of wanted my Eliza in in the mag and it's defo no track car. ;)

Bryn,

Could you email those attending the form in advance? That way we can have it all done before we get there.

Cheers, Mike...

It would be good (for the image of the 300ZX and the article) if there was at least one really fast car.

I'm happy to drop out if the list gets full and someone who can come with a quick TT wants to take my place.

Maybe some of you guys with names already down have quick motors?

Mate, There's a possibility I may have two TTs (!! ) about for this. If that is the case you can take one if you want? Will see how things go over the next couple of days. I wont be able to look at it until I win so may not happen but I'm crossing my fingers!

Dave - that is one seriously kind offer. You are a gent.

There might be issues with getting them there / insurance too though.

Plus, I'd also be a bit nervous thrashing someone else car about - if I'm going to crash / blow up anything I'd rather it was my own! I'd be happier in my own to be honest. Also I know it's not the fastest (ok, it about the slowest variant of the 300 there is) but it would show what a genuine 99 car is like.

I've got my fingers crossed for you anyway though.

There's also a slight possibility I might have to drop out due to an increase in work. I wouldn't do it unless someone can replace me - wouldn't want to let anyone down - and hopefully I'll be able to make it.

would be able to attend if anyone backs out

and a good show car for the mag

also running big power now

No worries on the form front, if people want/can print their spec out before the event no worries. I'll just staple it to the form on the day...

Here's what we hope to see on Thursday morning for those who haven't attended before... Oh, and sorry about the Mk2 Transit. But it makes for a pretty good base during the day.

Insert 'pikey boy writer' tune in a Beatles stylee here...
