Hi,

As you can see from my username I work for Jtuner magazine, hopefully you’ll be aware of the magazine by now and the ‘thrash’ type feature we run each month. For those of you who haven’t seen it, we get eight owners together for a fourteen-page feature in the magazine highlighting the tuning potential of a certain model.

So we’d like to get eight of you to come to Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire for a day with the timing gear and a two-mile straight…

First thing to say is that it’s a no stress day out, we attach Datron satellite activated timing gear to the car and you have four attempts at getting times you’re happy with from a standing start, these are in succession and there isn’t time to swap gear between cars and runs I’m afraid. It’s up to you how hard or easy you want to take it, we record 0-60, 0-100, ¼ mile with terminal speed and top speed.

The main emphasis of the day is to show you the owners and your cars in a positive way, encouraging non-owners to read and learn more about your chosen Japanese motor.

So, here’s the deal.

*Aside from any travel expenses you might incur the day is completely free for you. We pay for the track and timing gear.

*We are strictly limited to one car on track at any time and eight cars on track in a holding area plus our own. So no spectator cars, support vehicles etc. No exceptions.

*We deliberately book these days with short notice so people don’t build or modify cars especially for the day, sorry if that doesn’t fit in with you personal circumstances but there will be further opportunities in the future.

*Bruntingthorpe has a strict noise policy in place, with an 89Db limit at 4000rpm. If you have a very noisy exhaust it may be worth doing something about it before coming. We have had 600-800bhp turbocharged cars go through okay, so it’s not as strict as you may think.

*We will be on track all day, 9.30am start, there is a café and toilet located at the other end of the track, but this is two miles away. So come prepared with food and drink.

*It might sound stupid, but you will do upwards of 17miles on track, so make sure you’ve got enough fuel, including getting to the nearest petrol station when leaving (it’s ten miles to some Optimax)

Right, if any of that sounds appealing we’ve got a date, and it’s next week… Thursday the 15th. So what do you say? Anybody game for it? Eight cars would be great…

Here’s a link to Bruntingthorpe’s website, so you know where you’re going.

I hope this is of interest to you, we’ll all be there and look forward to meeting you. These days are our highpoint each month as they’re always good fun.

Cheers, Bryn

Possibly.

If you want someone who can be there for sure then rule me out as I can't be certain right now.

My car isn't a twin turbo but it is a genuine 1999 spec which is unusual for what that's worth.

sounds great. im free on that Thursday but im not 100% available. will try and finalise later on. there's a great annual charity day on at Brunters on Aug 20th that some members from here are going to.

Thanks guys, looks like a great start... Keep 'em coming!

So to kick off...

This is my only concern. I don't know how many Db mine is but it's not quiet!

How can I measure the Db levels of my exhaust before the 15th?

I'll have a bit of that! Will be my trackday for the summer I guess!!

I have a gas one that folds up and goes in a rucksack.

I'm happy to bring it and we could set it up.

They have a canteen there though which serves hot food all day.

Also, generally there's other people on the circuit/runway and I dunno if we might p1ss someone off with the smoke / H&S *****x etc.

I'll happily bring it if you think it's worthwhile though.

Mickeyb aswell :)

It would be good (for the image of the 300ZX and the article) if there was at least one really fast car.

I'm happy to drop out if the list gets full and someone who can come with a quick TT wants to take my place.

Maybe some of you guys with names already down have quick motors?

It'll be good to have a couple of N/As there just so I'm not the slowest out there!

Mines pretty nippy too, touch shiny alloy and all! dynoed 340 at the rear wheels + 340 lb torque. Might put my water sucking HKS filter back on for it though because I don't think it goes as fast with a single apexi.Dave

Bryn did say 'bring food and drink' so maybe we should?

I'm no BBQ expert though.

Bring it along bud, will it be big enough? if not we'll get disposables I guess.

8 - Slick Pete. (i have replied on Zclub thread already as Pmac but I dont need 2 places!!!!)

If I finish really early/can get the day off, I'll definitely pop along 'cos Brunters is only down the road from me ;).

I won't put my name on the list yet though, just in case I can't make it.

As a couple of you know this is also posted on the Z club to cover as many owners as possible, and Pmac from there is included which makes seven. I'll now transfer this to here from the Z Club so I'm not having to keep up with two threads.

Sorry if this offends, but it makes more sense to host it here...

Bryn

Looks like we're there then

Have a banana everybody. I'll check in again tomorrow... But it looks like we're good to go.

Cheers, Bryn
