Official 300zx Register

Hi guys an idea has been presented to me and after some thought want to put it to the vote.

The basis for an official register for us all would ideally have chassis numbers colour and details like mileage when registered and mods etc, but as a security precaution would not show a full registration No.

The idea been to build a data base of all the zeds registered in the Uk. Having spoken to DVLA it is possible to secure certain information from them concerning registered cars etc.

The benefits of this would be to track possible stolen cars and or help and assist new purchasers. It would need a nationwide approach to invite any non forum members to join also. When selling the vehicle you could use the register as selling point for them to contact and aquire extra information if they mention a pre arranged password that you could issue??? just up the air at the moment, I am looking to do this if enough are interested.Check out the zed site below for more details

Or mail to the address below

Iam keen to start the ball rolling.

Cheers guys let me know them details to be included

(Cars stickers etc will be issued)

the ford rs owners club have a similar thing, it seems to work pretty well, but call me a sceptic old twat but how can we guarrantee the info we give u is secure?

Car ringers would give their grannys away to get hold of priceless information such a perfect description of a car, ie its colour/vin numbers/ reg etc. therefore making it very easy to give a stolen zed a replica identity. i know it wouldnt take a genius to work out that all they have to do anyway is go and view any zed in the for sale to get that info, but to have all our info on the net???? not sure .. will see other peoples responses first, but u get my drift dont you?

Although not complete the basis would be that most of the details would be hidden but you could have an access password and prospective buyers could have a time dependant password from yourself, say for 24 hours? or so, as I said still working out the details but no information will go on line that could be accesses by er.... criminals oh S??t that takes out 50% of the forum then biggrin.gif If any views or good suggestions please mail me

Scoops - point well taken mate. Like Jeff says, this is just something I thought of a couple of days ago and I too am concerned about data protection. I'm thinking of creating an SSL page for input purposes only, after which data is transfered to an off-line database. Still, just a thought.

Also, please don't send us any actual car details yet, we're just after feedback re: the concept.

Thanks fellas.

Yeah sounds like a good idea boys. I know there is a Mitsubishi Lancer register but I don't know much about it. We might be able to get some ideas of them.

Nice one guys wink.gif

Erm..... When I first read this I thought it was a good idea - now scoops has spoilt it!!! His point is a very good one too! Going to extremes even if the information was kept offline, what if the server was stolen??? or hacked??? At the end of the day any collection of data on a rarer car with a list of addresses etc is gonna be pretty high up on some peoples list of "things to nick".

Also, for all of those naughty northerners who don't declare everything down to the non stock valve caps to their insurance, what would they think of a list of mods on their car being stored???

Just a few thoughts but not too sure it would work without a LOT of investment....

CheerZ,

Andy

Mmm all good points guys but my thoughts are along a datA base NOT on my pc or server just an access mail service where by info kept by zedworld can be requested rather than actually read on line, a register list can be viewable on line but details would have to be requested by mail as I said after each registre (is that a real word?) is allocated a password or code. Also tempary cdes or passwords that work have a limited time from use can be worked out so when selling you can give that code out to a genuine customer.

In my security business I have to store customers details in accordance with data protection so I fairly well versed in that anyhow, last thing we want is to give low lifes a way in. JeffTT

Jeez thanks guys just accessed my mail box this will take some reading will contact out to all asap will be looking at logo / window stickers today hopefully.
