waterpump/alternator belt

Jeez it never ends does it...The alternator/water pump belt I bought from nissan is too long for my 1989 Z. Does anyone know where I can get a belt of the proper size?

Cheers in advance!

They have sold you the wrong belt. The belt they have sold you is for the previous 300zx the z31. Which ceased to be imported in this country in 89, the new model started in 90, So they have got confused when they have looked up the order part for the belt. Go back get it changed and say you have the z32 model 300.

I took it back in today to get them to check the part no again, and sure enough it is for the Z32 model.

the belt isn't tight enough when the alternator is at full extension.

Halfords don't list a part for the z32, so I'm gonna try a few motorfactors tomorrow.

Strange, I replaced my water pump/alternator belt last week when I changed my water pump, I got the belt from my local Halfords, they looked on their computer they had two listings one for 300 12V V6 and 300 24V V6, the 24V being the Z32 of course I waited a day for it to come in.

What is the part no. of the belt you have??? The correct part no is A172M-67A0MVW.

I was going to post this as well, but i think the lightened pulley is smaller, which would mean the belts required would be longer.

You sure Craig??? Smaller pulley larger belts??? Surely theres less belt needed on smaller pulleys????

This reminds me of my former 1989 zed I had exactly the same problem but not on my present 1990 zed when the belt fitted fine,As yours is a 1989 wonder if there is a difference in brackets? I actually ended up modifying my bottom bracket by removing it and drilling an extra hole nearer the end to give more adjustment oh and incedently I also tried non Nissan belts and they wre worse!!!
