Really ? Surely that should be rear only on imports and not at all on UK cars.

It's not unknown ;)

Apacache, I like that look.

It's not my car BTW - just a pic I happened to have :D

Apacache

Bless you!!

I used to have black and silver plates on my Yamaha R1, only got told off once, did cost me 3 points and a £60 fine thou!

ive seen quite a few "pale " yellow numberplates on the back of Beemers - the yellow is so pale they are almost silver backing and look good on a grey black or silver car.

I’d argue the fact that a large UK front plate will further restrict airflow to an engine already known to suffer from overheating problems. As the front space was designed and constructed by Nissan engineers to have small front plate, to maximize the airflow to the cooling systems.

Therefore complying with the following

‘Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:’

‘The vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size number plates’

That’s what I’ll be saying if and when I’m stopped!

The rear could easily accommodate a standard 2 line UK plate; it would just overhang the carrier, and if you’re not fussed about appearance, then a standard single line plate could easily be fitted to the rear bumper, with a new carrier with integral lights.

Hey Apache, that was my old N/A! :hyper: I sold it to Jack on the forum last October as we had to move & couldn't keep the TT and the N/A, good to see it again.... :)

Anyway, they are illegal but i used to drive with those black & chrome plates on all the time (tiny plate on the front)..... Only got pulled twice in 18 months! :mac1: Not bad really.... just swapped them over for the legal ones, went down the MOT station got the paperwork signed, produced & swapped them back over! :slap: :nono:

Not that i approve of that sort of behaviour, but you gotta admit they do look a feck of alot better than the legal yellow ones! :nana2:

JJP - you'll be please to know your old purple beast is alive and well - used daily although with the standard plates. Oh- and I've put a quieter exhaust on it...

Hey Jack,

Good to hear it mate, although can't believe you've changed the exhaust  I'd only just had that custom made a couple of months before you bought it! :slap: Then again you are the ultimate purist though  i do remember that.

Champagne was lovely by the way, thanks for that, however we're now back in Northampton everything went Tits up down farnborough  :headvswal

Anyway are you and the car going to any of the meets this summer?, would be great to see the old purple beast again :hyper:

i'll be fitting a stick-on number plate on the front, no problems with air-flow and it won't come off when i boot it.

as for the rear i want to fit a jap sized plate, is this legal? also what about jap style lettering?

Sorry to hear that the move didn't work out. As for the exhaust, it's not the purist in me, it was the noise. The day after I drove it home for the first time, I took it into work and all came out to see it. As they all marvelled in the noise from what were ostensibly 2 straight through exhausts, a bloke from the printers next door came over to see what was making all of the noise. He passed various comments then drove off in a brand new TVR something or other - and the Z was definately noisier.

It had to go - sorry about that. Went to a good home though.

I also put original coilovers back on too - and got rid of the tints - and any of the bling that I could find - sorry about that, that bit is the purist in me.

Will you go be going to any of the meets this summer? If so which ones would be good to meet up & see the ol' girl again :nana2:

...unlikly. The trouble is, I'm married to a teacher and they have a rough time at work - so, as soon as any (school) holidays come along, she's always keen to get as far away as possible. It means that we are always booked to do something else whenever any of the shows are on - as they also tend to be in the (school) holidays...

And, there's no way she'd be interested in standing around looking at cars - unless they were all parked in a garden centre...
