How do you drive your Zed?

I have always believed that the car was designed to be driven hard and used to its full potential so thats the way I have driven it, have taken it on track a few times and quite often give it some serious stick.

Although I do keep the car 100% in top condition at no expense spared I have had to spend thousands repairing engine / gearbox. Am I being stupid driving a 15 year old car like this, many people I have spoken to tell me I am so whats your opinion? You are all owners so your opinion / views mean a lot more than Mondeo driver, should I wrap it up in wool or keep driving it like I am, grinning like a chesire cat.

Plus I have never posted a poll before and wanted to see how its done. :D

Most of the time it's sensible with occasional bouts of "enthusiatic" driving :D

Owning a Zed for me is as much about the way it looks and it's presence on the road as the way it can perform.

Apart from that I was once in a car accident that resulted in the write off of a vehicle and don't want to go there again, so I'd rather arrive late than not at all.

I agree there, I could enjoy the car either way, just pootling around and have the car looking good is enough for me, just wondering wether I should stop taking it on track.

If going on the track is what you enjoy and you're prepared to cough up for the expenses incurred then go for it :D

track fun can be had for a lot less mate

get yourself a cheap track car and keep the Z for special occasions and pissing of beemer drivers

I agree with you that they should be drove the way they were designed for, its why I bought it in the first place. I love the supercar looks and all but I love the feeling of adrenelin more! However I've voted 'Give it the odd booting when no one is looking' as I have to many points to drive like Nikki Lauder! When I get the overdraft sorted I'll be doing the track days. I think a good zed is great for trackdays as sub 5k for a 3-400bhp car is extremely cheap even if you had to pay a few grand to replace the engine. Not that I could afford that, but I don't think being able to afford 2.5k for a cheapy is being able to afford to run a zed. Only problem as a track car is the fact that tyres and all are so pricey, maybe I should just get a 200sx track car??

I cant justify another car, got 3 and a motorbike as it is. Suppose I could spend some money on the Golf GTaiiiiyyyy and get that on track, dont mind that one blowing up so much.

Im not ahuge fan of buying other cars for fun, for fooks sake the zed is awesum! I owned an s4 and took it on a track and it was fun but its no zed! Whats the point in owning a 3l v6 twin turbo and using it sparingly as your scared of hurting it?

I use mine as a daily driver and stretch her legs whenever i get chance

With aggression :D

I use my TT for track, but thats having a nice rebuild at the mo.

So i use my daily drive NA for the track at the mo :D

I'd love a track car, If i can find a decent priced car in good order thats track ready, i just may have to get one :D

Spotted this similar site the other day http://www.trackdays.co.uk/

As for how I drive the Z, well I guess I'm becomming a bit of a coward as I get older and don't take many chances these days.

Had a blast past lots of cars down the back roads the other day and it was brilliant, but there are so few opportunities to do that these days.

I do tend to blast it about whenever I can mainly on the straight until I get some better tyres, oh and if it breaks, I'll fix it.

Gaz

I aim to hit a ton everyday I drive it (admittedly that's not been much recently) but not all the time. If you knew the roads around my way then that is quite an achievement. On the way to Le Mans last year it got the thrashing of it's life and came back for more. I reckon rear tyres to last 5-6,000 miles and fronts hopefully double that, although I can see that changing with the new Brembos ! It's a sports car, it needs to be used. Having said that I harass weedy sports cars (like MX-5's) in the Xantia diseasal ...

I'm a take it to the drag track kind of girl, have done so with the Rex and will with the Zed. It'll be used like any other Jap car I've owned used as the run around, the plaything and the track car. Cars are for driving, and driving has many different facsets and Zeds fit into all of them. Yipppeee

If I have the family in the car, then its mostly sensible with the odd boot (as much as I can without getting told off :nono: )

When Im on my own then its "Nicki Lauder".....although I dont drive wrecklessly...just spirited

I drive it conservatively. I was so scared of it breaking....and look what it did.

Not quite Si, the damage was done before you purchased it and was not caused by driving style.

I’m 43, clean licence (for now) and to some of the younger member should be option ‘B’ but a combination of mid life crisis (of sorts), 2 month old (to me) Z that needs testing I find myself transformed back to the early 80s on bikes, overtaking everything and flooring it everywhere, and only getting about 13 MPG! So very much option ‘A’

Lots of fun, I keep buying bits, and fixing bits so have to go out and test it, just bought some D2 RS Racing Coilovers tonight, 36 way adjustment, all that testing! And I forgot 0-120mm height adjustment too, even more testing.

I guess one day all the new parts and testing will be over and I’ll just drive it around like a 43 year old should, but that would be boring, so if and when that day comes, I’ll probably be a ‘C’

How funny! As for how i drive my z today, badly, which goes hand in hand with pissing bmw drivers off as i hit an m3 convertible. Door mirrors at dawn type thing. With one loud crack i was down to one mirror. I did not hang about to see the damage to his. But without this being a hijack these old buses need a little bit more lurving in their old age. Every time i floor it i think of another repair bill which usually makes me poodle about!

I hardly give my zed a good ragging as i rarely go on nice long empty A roads. And also cuz i will get mine serviced every 9 months.

I use mine day to day, i put my foot down at least once a day and i love it. in the wet i have total respect and drive it like a jag smooth and slow

Drive the Z fairly hard but without realising it-passengers are always complaining of the slides and quick launches

As for trackdays ive got a MK1 Eunos roadster doing nothing but sit in the garage-Thought about stripping it out to make it even lighter and turning an already light mazda in to a really nice handing (really nice handling anyway)trackday car.

The thought has crossed my mind to sell the Z and put a Greddy Turbo conversion on the hairdressers car tune the hell out of it and use it for road and track..

Dont think i could get rid of the Fairlady tho....

If you like to drive slow that's ok and if you like to drive fast that's good. if you get a slow car you CAN'T drive fast BUT if you get a fast one (300ZX) you CAN go slow.

Agree with 300dsh

I make the most of mine, when the sun shines I give it a good booting!
