How about encouraging more people to subscribe, and the club setting up an insurance policy for all members, so that should a situation arise like Paul’s, where there is stalemate, the insurance picks up the costs.

It would only apply to club traders, and where the problem can’t be remedied under the traders warrantee (how many issues like Paul's have been aired in the past?).

If practical and affordable, it will encourage more members to subscribe, encourage more members to use the traders and give comfort to the members that if it all goes wrong as in Paul’s case, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

it would never work mate.......too open to abuse for one, and who the hell would insure that ?

yuo take a £20 payment once a year, and possibly end up paying 3k in one shot....what happens when funds run out? sorry yout not covered?

nice idea, but personally i cant see it working

I don’t know how many subscribed members there are currently, and how many more there could be, but I’d guess that there has been less than 1 major incident like Paul’s per year. So if a £300/year normal insurance covers not only total loss of your car (say £5K), plus £20M+ of third party liability, then I would have thought that an insurer could come up with an attractive package, whereby the club pays the premium, and subject to strict criteria, someone in Paul’s situation make a claim. Maybe it doesn’t include minor issues (ie a scratch that wasn’t there before the service), so only pays out where the claim is between £500 and £5000, and the club management has a hand in validating any claims.

Maybe membership would have to go up by say an extra fiver to cover this?

Looking at the comments on Paul’s posts, I don’t think that many other members have been in this situation, so would expect more than 1 claim per year.

Just a thought!

to become an insurer isnt as easy as charging the mebership mate, it would have to be set as a business, and obide by the gouverning rules, which could put this club under, i really cant ever see it happening

No reason on earth why members should have to pay insurance premiums for traders screw ups. They should pay for it themselves or better still be removed from the forum if they are found to be mistreating the members.

I wasn't suggest that the club becomes an insurer, just that it could take out a policy to cover the traders.

I agree the traders should be responsible, but every now and then you'll get a problem like Paul's where members have no where to turn.

Only a thought!
