Does the ECU compensate so it runs the same on Super as standard Unleaded? I use my ZX a lot and the fuel prices are making my mod plans look like distant dreams.

I heard that Jap fuel is higher octane than we can get here, is this true?

I think I'll start drilling for oil in my back garden...

Never had any problems running on 95 Ron unleaded. Tried Super unleaded but didnt notice any real difference other than the hole in my pocket!! I used to notice a difference on my 200sx though - it used to get a little breathless at 5500 rpm with the 95 Ron but was noticeably better with 98 Ron. Give them both a try and see how the car runs.

95 is fine on the Stock Jap ECU if it has been Reset.

98 is better specially if you run higher than Stock boost.

Japan is a think 101 so you engine will be used to that much octane, if you really want to care for it i would keep using 98.

Also check the ECU is stock, Take up the passanger side kick pannel and check for any aftermarket stickers, like Superchips, Mines, JUN or any other. Failing that look for I.D characters on the Consult console next time you get a test done.

Thanks people.

I used to have an Alfa 145 1.7 16V with a Boxer engine and I really noticed the difference between 95 and 98 octane.

Maybe it's because I don't often need to get every last rev from the ZX!

ran my car on 91 or something in italy and dropped two pistons so bot to try scare you just be carefull and see if your ecu is standard

I managed to run on normal unleaded until the last mod when I started heading over 1.1 bar... smooth as smooth... it's only since exceeding 1.2 bar I got the occasional detination click and switched to super. You should be fine on 95ron.

Not all Japanese fuel is 101 octane. They too have a lower octane unleaded. Like the others said, Check for an aftermarket ECU and check to see whether your Z is boosting more than 10psi.
