I am currently running 18" wheels and new Goodyear F1 tyres.....

in my garage I have a set of jap spec original 16"'s running pirrelli P6000's

today I have punctured 2 of the 18"s - is it worth repairing them because there almost new. or going back to 16"'s for now.

There is another problem... I have my traction control set up for 16"

What do I do?

Featured Replies

I'd get them repaired, only costs about £12 each around here.

Should you swap over to the old wheels then it will make a minimal difference to the TC, as it is setup for the rolling radius, not the wheel size per se. Larger wheels, smaller tyrewall, therefore, net difference = next to nothing.

Cheers mate,

I have decided to go back to the 16"s, I will use this time to get my 18"s refurbished.

Hey Stevie,

Was that you stranded on the M42 this afternoon?

Was informed about a red ZX on the hard shoulder by a passing NSX customer of mine ... Would have stopped if I was passing.

Put the car on 16's and get the 18's repaired. Just remember to drive sensibly whilst the 16's are on ...

Hi mate, that wasn't me, but funnily enough - I saw him too so I stopped and lent him my phone. He said he was on the forum, but i didn't catch his name.

I have a blue zed with 3x 18's and a space saver spare on it, you can't miss me!

whilst we're on the subject of tyres.

my car has currently got brand new jap-spec tyres fitted. will it be ok just to replace the rear tyres, as the fronts grip fine even in the wet, unlike the rears :(

this should only be for a few months while i save up for some new wheels.

Pete - if the tyres came on the car from Japan then I'm afraid they're illegal on the road in the UK and require replacing. The rubber compounds used in Asia are very different to the ones used here and if you're not careful you'll soon find out what can happen if you don't replace them.

Stevie - Good man for stopping and helping the man! If you're in Redditch/Bromsgrove we should make some time to meet up (I'm in Studley).

Regards,

Dan

thanks danny.

took a look at some federal tyres today, at a very good price, a 265/35/18 came in around £85+VAT, and a 225/50/16 is about £45+VAT.

just got to get saving quick for some new wheels, as i don't want to keep the standard wheels.
