F1??? Boring!!!!

I don't wanna steal yer thunder guys, Nick, Warren and Andrew etc.

But man it's like watching paint dry! Been watching the qualifiers just now...Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I was watching the WRC in Corsica this week and I have to say that it beats F1 or even TCC hands down!

Me and the Boy Wonder went to see Yoooohhhhhaaaaaaa Kankinen at the Welsh stages years ago when he was driving the GT-4 Toyota Celica and man...fuck me! How mad are those guys???

WRC is so much more exciting, real cars that we can relate to, F1 is becoming like NASCAR...BORING!!!

OK you have your excitement but I think personally that WRC drivers are more skilled! They drive cars that are more associated with real life driving and in different scenarios and surfaces...good effort!

F1 now-a-days is all about money, not driving, long gone are the days of Senna, Mansell, Hill etc.

Sting is gone!

Sad!

P.S. now World Super Bikes is another kettle of Octane completely! LOL biggrin.gif

IMHO

First of all Timmy - what the F*uck are you doing up at 6.18 on a Sat morning? I thought I was sad for posting at 7.41 but atleast I have the Flu and cant sleep.

However, regarding your comments on F1, I have to admit, since F1 cars have become so separated with regards to technology, it has become a little frustrating to watch. By the admition of other teams, Ferrari are leaps and bounds ahead of the any other constructors. As an example, last session Jenson Button ran at over 100BHP less than the top cars.

I do like to watch the F1 season but if by the last pitting Schumacher is in front by a long margin, I begin to get bored and start channel hopping. Personally I hope Montoya wins - we need a new champion.

I think bikes are in a realm of their own. By my own admision, Bikes scare the shite out of me. I like to watch but you wont get me on one. No Sireee! I have mad respect for those who can ride with there knee touching tarmac but my brain just cant get round that fact that they dont fall off at that angle.

Give me 4 wheels anyday!

If you have not been to a race live and seen 22 cars like that all at once, then your dead boring. There is nothing like the sound and the speed, it is simply amazing.

As for nascar, well go stand on the end of a straight and let 60 v8s pass you at 220mph and tell me how boring it is.

if you have decent sound turn in way up for this clip biggrin.gif

World SuperBike , rah, rah rah etc (and Suzi Perry !) biggrin.gif

F1 became boring when they brought the refuel rule in. Before then, they had to make a 800bhp car that could do 200miles on a tank.

Also at the start of the race all the cars where heavy becuase of this and all on a level plain. But now you have the front runners flying off cos they have less fuel and the back runners running heavy cos all they are doing it hoping that some one DNF.

Also I think that if they change the points so that the top 10 get points so we will see more battles down the ranks as they are trying to get in the points.

And the face that a team can consisntely come 7-8th in a season and not get any points is unfair.

one thing about going to watch f1 take some earplugs as i swear i thought one of my eardrums had gone pop the last time...oh and heres a quick tip watch the spanish grand prix instead of the english one you can go over there for the week for a holiday and still watch it for cheaper than the weekend at silverstone

My recipe for making F1 more interesting again: Bring back turbos!

If you bring back turbos and ban refuelling stops, drivers can turn the boost up on the straights to overtake more easily but can't run too much boost for too long or they run out of fuel.

Result: more overtaking and more excitement at the end as you never know who'd been using too much fuel and who hadn't. It would also reduce the chances of having to watch someone spend 30 laps driving right up someone else's gearbox with no chance of getting past until they pit.

You'd also effectively make the tyre changes important again. At the moment they do the tyre change and then have to wait for the fuel to go in - very tedious.

I know what you are saying about it being detached from the cars we drive but dont you find it a marvel at what can be produced within the strict rules? Half the materials used were classified by the military only a few years ago and didn't officially exist. And the fact that they are getting to almost 300bhp per litre from a normally aspirated engine that lasts longer than your average SE rebuilt VG30DETT wink.gif

And to see it in the flesh is what its really about, it will take your breath away. I wouldn't recommend the Spanish GP though. As cheap as it is, the race there is probably the most boring of the year due to all the testing they do there and the fact that there is only one overtaking point. I did San Marino, cheaper than the British GP and it was MUCH better and from my seats, I could see almost 1/3 of the track. Spa is the cheapest to go to I think and I hope to go there this year. Next year I'm planning Suzuka or Malaysia and the Nurburgring. Oh yeah, ear plugs are for sissies biggrin.gif

Thanks for posting your diary andy biggrin.gif muwahahahah

As far as proper circuit racing goes, then if you wanna see proper metal to metal action go to the touring cars!!! The only problem is, touring cars has suffered the same cost cutting, fuck up the racing, rule changes last year frown.gif This meant that the racing last year was a bit hit and miss but got better as the year went on. This year should be fantastic, all the teams will have settled in to the new rules and know the best setups for the tracks under the new rules...

So all in all when it comes to easter weekend guess where I'm gonna be! I'll be at brands for the first round of the year of the TOCA races - best thing is they've also got the british GTs there this year too so double the value!!!

Following Dave here are some more rule changes

- deduct 5 points for being German (sorry Heinz-Harald, sorry Ralf - it's the only way we can stop him)

- no more sequential wheel mounted gear change. Make them change gear the proper way - with a gearstick. Made a man out of me - and made a man out of my wife.

- no traction control, no electrickery. Bring back the distributor.

- Grid is in reverse order of qualifying.

Bring back Le Mans starts, make all tobacco sponsored drivers have a pit stop for a fag (and to make it fair, the others can stop to change their CD), no radio contact, no bloody buttons on the steering wheel (looks like a Gameboy these days).

Don't waste the champers (in the old days they actually used to drink it out of glasses on the podium - yes, really, it was on that thing about Jackie Stewart last w/end).

(collapses dribbling in foam flecked fit)

biggrin.gif ROFLMFFFFAAAAOOOOO biggrin.gif

Make the drivers stop for a fag due to ciggy sponsors! FFS I'm cryin' with laughter this end....you nutter! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now, Rizla sponsor bikes - do they still sponsor any F1? Would the pit crew be allowed to skin up in advance or would the driver have to do it himself? And what about the one-handed skin-up leaving the other for the steering wheel?

And didn't Durex used to sponsor back in the 70s? Screech to a halt, leap out of the car, quick knee-trembler and back out again in under 15 sec. biggrin.gif

Top banana, dunk - this year's MotoGP could (fingers firmly crossed) be a blinder. Can't wait.

When in the 2 wheeled trade I once took Kork Ballington's Kawasaki 500 GP bike for a paddle (short one - then I sh*t myself). wink.gif
