Right I'm no expert but...Bird what type of Air Intake are you currently running with buddy boy?

Ask Iain (MAC1) what happens when your AFM goes south or west for that matter, I was there and witnessed the sad event!

I've also seen Sensai Duff diagnose an AFM on the way out with Shaunmac's Z so to be honest if the ECU is giving you AFM errors either a) get it fixed (highly unlikely) or b) get a replacement bud.

Reason why I was asking what intake you have bolted on is...if you have a sponge filter like an HKS then water can pass through the foam and f\/ck the hotwire beyond belief! ;)

thats the trouble with everyone having datascan...

a little knowledge is dangerous

your car is too far advaced timming wise, your air flow is wrong, you have a tapping sound, and all this on a engine just fitted.....

you SERIOUSLY need to get to a person who knows what they are doing, or your very very soon going to need another engine

your detonating like crazy, its not got long left if you carry on using it mate i would say..

drive to the bottom of your road, ring the AA and get then to take it to a zed garage, and leave it there until they say its working

Mate,

Check the AFM is actually connected if it is then its probably a safe bet to say your AFM has died. I'm sure it would be far cheaper to buy a second hand AFM from another member / eBay to see if it has, than driving all that way (for you) to ztech.

This looks like a good bet

...and if it turns out not to be the AFM - you'll probably get that back on eBay anyway - so nothing lost.

Hope this helps

nah im with tpot, mate leave this car the fook alone till its been looked at!! theres absoutely no point driving it as if one things playing up itll have a knock on effect on everything else. take the advice people have said for months and get her looked at by a pro. its worth it in the long run.

^^^^ What T-pot said. A new engine, and even more problems.....I feel for you bird :( (although granted the MAF is seperate from engine).

p.s AFM/MAF problems will usually show as problems revving past the 2-3k problem, misfiring, mixture problems and general rough running.

Spot on advice from that man! ;)

Really feel for you mate, anyway if the AFM fails(just had this on mine) the car won't rev smoothly past 2600rpm (it's like hitting the limiter).......car is perfect up to this and is driveable with no adverse effects to the engine. when I ran a conzult check it reported 0.08v most of the time and 5.87v some of the time.

check the plug and pins for corrosion......give them a clean and try again, if no good then I'm afraid it's more than likely gone chips.

I got mine of ebay for £64 all in (second hand) at the time(2 weeks ago) none of the traders on here had any but price was higher than I paid( I was lucky)

have a look at other nissan sites, eg skyline, pulsar and 200sx costhey use them ......you may get lucky.

you can't fit a MAF from a skyline etc as they a smaller size. in fact the skyline boys fit the Z32 MAF when tuning, because of its greater airflow.

check the connections first. if they're all ok, then get someone who knows what they're doing to look at it, i'm sure there's someone on here who could check it out for you.

you should avoid driving the car till you get the MAF sorted, if it starts dettin then you kill the new engine. your doing alot of damage driving it like it is, while the engines still bedding in.

>> car started 29times with the error code 12 AFM

this means your car had a airflow-meter or airflow-meter wiring/connector problem 29 starts ago..so it's an old problem that happened some time ago.

It could be something as simple as a loose connector or the car was once started without a AFM connected (eg. for test purposes)

clear the error and see if it comes back (it shouldn't).

If it does, check/clean the AFM connector first and if that doesn't help replace the AFM or swap with a known good one to see if that solves the problem.

I had reset the ecu yesterday and got no errors, i will re-try the data scan tonight to see if the error is back

AFM packed up on him at Trax a few years back so it was a ride back up Norf on the back of an AA flat bed!!! ;)

I never said use a skyline unit, pulsar unit or 200 sx unit ........they use our afm's for tuning. Just for the record when mine packed up and I spoke to Ryan, he said the car would drive without damaging the engine as it's a sort of emergency limp mode.

STOP FOOKING ABOUT CHECKING IT AND TAKE IT TO A SPECALIST FFS MATE

some sound advice about taking to a specialist bud, granted you want to wait till its free, but it may cost a lot more if it goes bang

get a run around till its fixed, i know it costs more to get a run around but it will be worth it in the end
