My Bro and his 5 year old son are into Tae Kwon Do at the moment and are loving it. I went along to see what it's all about a few weeks back and it looks great, I really want to get my baby daughter into something like this when she's old enough! Excellent physical workout value and also teaches you and your kids self defence which in this day and age IMO is a must for the youngsters.

But I'm more fascinated with Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and have been doing quite a bit of research into it on the web.

Just wondered if any of you lot have done it?

I've did jee kune do(the way of the intercepting fist) for a year and loved it but let due to training with the irishing kickboxing team. It was greatfor me as it was rough but would not advise it for kids. I would advise kickboxing though for anyone :hyper:

my mates a JKD instructor, has his own club in Aus. very good style. very popular with doormen as it contains a lot of close grappeling moves.

fairly good all round style IMO :)

Sounds like it should be served with rice...;-)

stealing the thread here but, has anyone ever done capowera (brazilian dancing/martial art) there is a club started at the sunderland university

but i would like to know a bit about it first

Ive done Karate in 2 styles (black belt in both), Judo, aikido, boxing and kick boxing. I obviously used to love it :D

I would deffinately say its worth doing, especialy at a young age too, and you as an adult will get fitted and more nimble ;)

If you watch BBC one and you see those 2 guys kicking and ducking each others move then that it. Apparently the martial art was banned due to certain laws in the country it came from so they used dance as a work around the law. I wouldn't like to catch one of their kicks though

I did JKD for about 5yrs before going into the Marines, and many other things before and after that. I've started at another club here in Tonbridge that does JKD along with a lot of mixed martial arts. Its geared towards adults usually but if there is a class for kids then I'm sure it will be adjusted to suit. Its a lot more useful than traditional martial arts that tend to get stuck with forms and unrealistic drills and punching/kicking the air like robots :)

yeah thats the one, i know what it is, but has anyone done it, ive got a dicky shoulder and wondered if this would affect or help it (weight lifting injury/disslocated shoulder)

They do lots of acrobatic dance moves, so probably wouldn't help a dislocated shoulder. Then again I've trained with several people whose shoulders pop out due to old injuries. They just wince and pop it back in! makes me cringe!!

I wouldn't think it would help your shoulder mate, you'l probably end up using your arms to keep yourself up on some of the moves, unless you have really good balance and leg strength that is
