Have you followed Danny's advice from DTA on one of the posts to check which port it's using?? As this happened to me as well only port 3 was coming up ok but nothing and I plugged the cable on it's own into the laptop and wizard installed it then I used Dannys advice to check which port and it came up as number 7. HTH

Assuming you're running Windows XP, have a look at control panel -> system -> hardware tab -> device manager -> ports> There it should be mentioned which com port is linked to your USB port.

Here is Dannys advice.

Are you getting the ECU code coming up (see the thread I started - second attachment) or do you still get an invalid port message.

I read on the Blazt site that a bad battery can cause connect problems, said something about trying main beam to see if it helps the charging circuits and hence the connection?.

I've got different problems with mine.

Gaz

Had you the Ignition switched on? Also, i think the setting needed in the port setting dialog from the device manage are :-

Speed 9600baud, 8bit, No parity, 1 stop bit, software handshaking (Xon/Xoff)

May also be a good idea to check there is actually power to the cars Consult port. You can check by using a multimeter...

12v Red wire - pin. 7 (on its own far top left hand side of connector)

Gnd Green Wire - Pin 8 (1st pin on bottom right hand corner)

Sometimes the Consult fuse can blow (cant remember which one in the fuse box though)

Make sure the datascan lead is plugged in to your usb port before checking and it will come up with something bridge IIRC

Until we can get some parameters for the car when new we wont know what settings/readings we are supposed to get.

Only a matter of time i suppose until someone with a healthy Z can post up a screen shot of what is a 'good' datascan result lol

If you have a KPH -> MPH speed convertor on your clocks, put the Speed gauge in KPH in datascan and it will read the correct MPH speed (even although it says KPH, thats the problem with Speed convertors - they also affect PAS and Hicas).

Yep, sounds like Det sensor fault, Car will be in safety mode. Take her for a drive, and withtout turning ignition off, try it again.

I already know I have det senseor fault ebc overrides it :D

was just that self diag said car started 0 times with the fault

any1 going to do a write up on this?

cheers

I will try and put up some parameters shortly

Cheers mate

It will still retard your timing unfortunatly, affecting performance especially off-boost.

can this be overcome with the datascan

or will the resistor mod sort that

cheers

Resistor mod, or replace Det sensor/harness. Check connectors first.

Resistor mod is a dodgy mod to do, it will fully advance the timing by another 5 degrees because it will not detect engine knock. Best thing if you want to keep the car is to fix it properly with the new knock sensor and loom.

  • Author

its code 34 so its not detecting knock bud not gonna take the engine out just for this lol

cheers for the advice though

David, that would fantastic if you could post some "ideal" parameters...
