I've got a 1991 2+2 TT, when I change from 3rd to 4th over 3500rpm it seems to crunch a bit going into 4th, the guy I bought it from has changed the clutch recently....does anyone know what this could be?? All other changes are smooth as silk, even 3rd to 4th a low revs?

dodgy syncro on 4th a very common problem as 4th is a weak point of the z's manual box.

change the oil to mt 90 and try that for a while . if it doesnt work im afraid its a refurb job.

do you know if a refurb is an expensive job?

do a search mate, its been discussed recently. ive got Exactly the same problem with mine, changed to mt90 about a week ago whichll cost between £40 -£75 i got mine done at a garage for £45. as for a refurb it aint cheap, cant remember what prices were said, i think about 600-800 notes. ive only changed my gearbox oil a week ago and it does feel a bit smoother, ive been told it takes about 2 weeks to get the full benefit, although ive not tried and high revs i.e over 4.5 changes yet, i just double the clutch, and dont rush the change and its normaly ok. good luck mate

Ouch...i'm gonna change the oil tomorrow and see if that helps, if not my mates dad owns a garage and he reckons he might know someone that'll do the refurb on the cheap. If he can i'll let you know his number incase you want to get yours done.

Dude, I've got exactly the same prob, was also told to change gearbox oil. Ai't done it yet tho! Interested to know about the refurb too just in case

changing the oil does help, but as i thought it hasnt completly solved the problem, althought to be honest i was wondering exactly how it would if the syncros gone! im definetly wanting a rebuild as im sure u know just how damn frustrating it is having power and not being able to put it down. anyone knows somewhere thatll do a cheap rebuild, let me know. j
