What are better the grooved brakes or these vented brakes? if so where can I find them?

Rob,

If you do a search I think you will find details about a buy Warren organised. The company link is http://www.3gbrakes.co.uk/ and on this site you will see a partial photo of Warren's car. A number of people took up this offer, and it would be interesting to see any feedback after a period of usage (as like you I am wondering about this upgrade).

When you mention vented, is this the cross drilled type? From what I have seen on the web, in time they tend to start cracking between the holes, whereas the groved/slotted discs appear to last longer.

I notice the Stillen discs are cadnium coated and less prone to rust. I am not sure if 3G do this? I think I remember somebody commenting on the rust, and thus affecting the appearance through the wheels? Although my goal would be the brake performance, it would be good to have both benefits.

I think it is just terminology, but venting to me is bit in the middle between the 2 outer surfaces of the disc. I think I remember 3G had a good definition screen of terms, etc....

Maybe something else if you're looking for vented AND bigger AND better brakes...

You might want to try the rotors (12.5") of a Mitsiubitshi 3000GT.

You'll need special adaptors to relocate the calipers though. (and it won't fit if you still have the standard wheels)

the complete setup (adaptors + vented front-rotors+ pads) costs $450: http://ginnmotorsports.com/brakes.htm

just a scathing remark on your useage of the word 'engineer'. If he is an engineer then what degree does he have?. I take it he has a degree or HND in mechanical engineering?.I am a professional electronics engineer and have spent 12 years of studying to achieve this title. It just f*cks me of when someone calls themselves one when all they have got is some cheesy certificate and a bit of knowledge.

Rant mode off.

cheers

Tony

3G Are very good i have to say.

They do Brembo castings and slot them themselves. I still have my 3g rear discs and am very pleased with them. I have no rust or anything like that, but i have also heard that story?

Ring Kevin and he will help you out.

As for how the discs workk. I did a trackday on mine at Kemble and i was well chuffed, had redstuff pads, and never got any fade at all.

3g ones (300zx Fronts) look like this (Although mine are drilled out for 4 stud pattern).

Rock Star,

I view anyone with a degree as just a person who had to stay on after school !!!! It can produce interesting reactions when I interview people ! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I had Tarox 32-groove discs fitted to the front of my zxTT and they are great at stopping the car. However they do seem to squeal more than standard or drilled ones (produce a lot of dust in the calipers which i blow out once a week with a tyre pressure hose and they also eat brake pads like crazy.

I used to work at soton institute as a technician, best fun I've ever had. Even took my guitar in on several occasions to beat the boredom!!!.

Ha, I'm the odd one out where I work, most other people have an BSc, MSc, PHD or those funny trendy business degree things that managment consultants have these days. The bizarre thing is that I wouldn't even be interviewed for the job I now have, had I not started as a pleb a few years back !
