Looks like my drivers side window motor has died.

Stripped the door down last night and soldered some dry joints in the control box which I've heard is a common fault but still not working.

Tested there's power to the motor (25v?) so looks like it's failed.

How easy are they to swap? I couldn't really see the motor from any angle, even with the metal speaker panel removed.

Looks like a PITA to do

If anyone has a drivers side motor going spare PM me :)

Hello mate. I've never dealt with a zed window motor before, but if you can actually get the motor case/mechanism open, then it's got to be worth trying to clean up the commutator of the motor itself (try a very fine grade of sandpaper). The most common reason for failed electric motors are just a build-up of carbon on the commutator itself. Other than that, you get magnets going weak over time (one reason for them slowing down) or a breakage with one of the windings (forget it and chuck it in the bin!). I've repaired window motors to good working order this way before, and it'll save you a few bucks!

It's a bit odd how it failed really - It just wouldn't go down one day.

It's never slowed or showed signs of straining so I thought it might just be a bad connection.

I don't really want to remove it and strip it down only to find I can't get my window closed again as it's my only car at the mo LOL

Might give it a go on saturday though.

That's exactly how the window failed in my Golf. I thought there was a severed connection, too! Strange how carbon build-up caused it to happen suddenly like that, but that's what the cause was. You're right to be cautious if the zed's your only car at the mo - as there's no gaurantee it'll work - it's just worth a shot if you've got nothing to lose, if ya know what I mean!

All the best,

Simon

If you have any success please let me know, I could really do with fixing mine but as it's a bitch to get the door card off with the window shut I sort of gave up at the black box stage

if all else fails and you need a d/side window motor ring ken on 07751149211 i know he's got one

Bit of a tricky job to do, but only took bout 1/2 hour. just did mine when i put a new door on.

only two screws hold in the motor itself, but there's two more nuts further along door holding in frame. also need to undo two nuts in carrier runner that window bolts into.

the motor and runner is then removed through speaker panel hole.
