Hi guys,

I viewed a 300ZX Twin Turbo today and thought id publish my findings. The guy had it up for sale for £6k and is a 1994 manual. I thought for £6k it should be a very nice example!

It has a few nice modifications too, such as twin Kakimoto exhausts, Greddy boost controller, Greddy turbo timer and a Blitz turbo guage.

The car has coilovers, a nice looking bodykit and aftermarket alloy wheels.

I went to have a look with high hopes with a massive grin on my face, itching to have a go, thinking this is too good to be true.

Anyway, first impressions were good. After a good look, I found a few minor flaws. There were:

1. Had no immobiliser/alarm

2. Still in KPH (he said this is legal?)

3. Still limited to 112mph

4. Crack in front bumper bodykit

5. Some sort of alarm wire stuck all over the front windscreen.

6. Had holes in the dash board where something had been previously mounted

7. Broken wing mirror

8. The boost controller was all analog. Had no instructions either!

So I knew to get these things sorted, it would cost me around a grand.

The bloke is from Japcity, he said the business no longer exists. However, the car is on autotrader and states 'trade', plus the car is on their website. All sounds a bit dodgy to me.

I offered him £4500 for it, expecting him to negotiate. However, he wouldnt budge a penny!

I came away dissapointed because the car showed potential!

Anyway, what do you think? Did I do the right thing?

Im looking to buy a very good example 300zx, is anyone selling? Or has anyone seen a beauty?

Not sure where JapCity is based as I went to the owner's house. He was selling it privately.

Their website is http://www.japcity.com. Is this the one based in Derby?

The owner said the company no longer exists and yet the car is on their website and states 'trade' on Autotrader. Things did seem very dodgy! My gut feeling was to run away immediately and dont look back!

He said he bought it from Japan for £5500 (yeah right) from a trader!

well il tell u this for 5500 2 years ago i imported a grade 4.5 40k SB it was a beauty totally standard, but then the one you saw did have a lot of mods on it.personally paying that from japan id expect an unmarked one with no problems.you have more chance m8 of finding rocking horse sh** than getting a car in from japan with an alarm on it ,very very few have them fitted,as for the kph clocks ,im 99.9% sure this is iligal ,as a start the car will not pass the mot with kph clocks on it.i had to convert the cars i got in b4 getting them mot'd or they wouldnt pass,it would be interesting to find out if the car did have an mot on it.Did it have a rear fog light fitted to it? be interesting to find that out as well.when fitting a converter to mph that will de-limit the car m8,analog boost control i wouldnt worry m8.only thing that wud put me off that would be an mot if it had 1,cus it shouldnt have one lol.you did the right thing m8 walk away if you dont feel happy about it.

I'm 99% sure kmph clocks are OK to pass MOT.

I've had several kmph Z's pass MOTs and none fail

Thanks

ahhh fook thats a total of 300 quid i could have saved then on 5 cars aggggg, just i was sure they wouldnt from what people have told me,but i've never put a car with kph clocks through an mot, moral of this story is dont listen to me LOL :mac1:

Yep, thats what i've heard too. If over 10 years then ok but i'll probably get it changed to MPH anyway. I didnt know that until yesterday

As for the car I saw Tuesday (yesterday), it did have an MOT. It also had a rear fog light but he fitted the switch himself and looked really crap.

Im gonna check out the one by Import-ance. Its grade 4, is that good?

What's the highest grade for an auction?

Apparently the TV in it has gone walkies :(

Ask to see the auction sheet which should have whatever grade the car was, take the car for a good drive and look for smoke etc also if your travelling a fair distance make sure on the phone first its always been the colour advertised :x:

This car is now on Ebay. He must want to sell it!
