hole in exhaust manifold? why?

ok - don;t anyone throw a giant wobbly or anything. ok. but.... i was looking at a GTO twin turbo, - hold on...just bear with me people.. and i was thinking of buying it....alright, everyone just stay calm for a second ,,don;t go mad.. but it apparantly has a small hole drilled in the exhaust manifold.

i was wondering if anyone new why anybody would do such a strange thing. i don;t think it is anything to do with a perfornance part or what? it is a bit confusing really. why would you want air to get in [or seep out] of the exhaust manifold??? i know that the turbo;s are gonna be sucking air from this area, but why would you want a bloody hole there as well ? why? to make the car sound louder? what is going on - or is this some strange gto thing that nobody knows about?

any ideas - ?

Veilside I wonder if it could be the hole where the oxy sensor should fit???

ok, this sounds like a good start.

but what might the oxy sensor do - and why would it have been taken off [or perhaps it fell off!]

mmmmmm. interesting.

good stuff.

i've had a thought. might the hole have been where an EGT guage used to be fitted, - i guess the previous owner may have taken this sensor guage thingy off and put it on his next car [victim]. someone has told me that you might have one of these guages if you are trying to run high boost pressures - and then the EGT /gass guage thingy would let you know if the engine was running lean, and screwing up.

what does anyone reckon to that paragraph of garbage>

i think we're getting somewhere anyway.

Yup sounds like a EGT hole to me too - if it is 1/8th pt hole then chances are it was !

Jeez blowing manifold aint what you want - run a mile dude !

oh dear. could be too late for that. i'm a sucker for a good looking car, - i'll just plug the hole up some how i think.

er, yeah. i'm one of those guys that people 'see coming a mile off' if you know what i mean.

i'll sort it out.!

anyway, like the advert, whats the worst that could happen? !

If you can get to the hole in the manifold easily ( good luck trying on a Z) then you should have no bother. You could even put a new EGT in there - It is a very usefull tool

Altho i would further This unto asking why a Car would need a EGT unless it has been tuned to a level where Detonation is a real risk. I would check what Mods are declared before parting with the money
