So, the 300ZX starter motor sounds like it's been running on a Talbot Horizon.

 

Can you fit a newer one from a 350Z that doesn't sound like a prehistoric motor?

Nooo..I Love the sound. Sounds better than lesser car starters, and very recognisable.

 

Reminds me of a Sportsbike/Superbike starter.

If you remove the heatshield it will sound quite different.

 

I removed the heatshield on mine (but for other reasons) and it doesn't seem to cause any (overheating) problems...sofar.

also alot easier to slide out past the exhaust with the heatshield removed
