right as some of you maybe aware , im in need of new turbos , i will only buy brand new , not re conned , or should that be conned !!! turbos as my car will most likely be off the road i can save up for better ones for future mods , , i was going to call it a day but tbh i have put far to much money and time into this zed to give up now , my plans are to just get brand new ones for now then mess about with intercoolers injectors when funds allow , any prices from traders please welcome, ,, just looking for what my best options are , as im keeping the car its an auto if it makes a difference !! cheers all in advance

i should add there is one trader i wont be buying them from for obvious reasons, i hate to snap at them but there hands are tied as i had and have no confidence in the mechanic who replaced them first time round , so it was my own god given right to refuse him to do anymore work on my viechle , which voided the warranty with new turbos , tbh i am aware this would be the same anywhere else ,if i had them done but its my own beilefe that they should of lasted longer than 3 months use , basically 300 miles max of use !!

best of luck this time round mate, hope you find some decent turbos and offers, seems just recently alot of un-necessarily detailed chat about slight upgrade turbos...

What caused them to die so quickly?

its only the rear oil seals tbh but it still means pulling lump and rebuilding , where as when i last had them done they where uprated to 360 thrust turbos with apparent stronger rear oils seal for decatting etc !! hmm still live and learn ,

onwards fight . not looking at 500bhp want no more than 400bhp at the fly as i have an auto box that i dont want to blow up just yet,, and more than happy with 400bhp , was pushing around 320-340 before , but want this to be my max and stay reliable

possible causes , not seated corectly when reconned ,, and not properely reconed , i have spoke to a few experts and they have said even thought they were in my old car that blew an engine ! long story! thaey would have shown signs of damage witihn first few miles if there was something wrong with them ,, and they where tested before refitiing , and they where fitted corectly by a qualified first class mechanic ,, second time round !

If i need to go turbo's in the future i will be using TD04HL-13G's. They come with a t25 flange, and support up to 230bhp each. And for £190 each they far better than any rebuilt/re'conned' Turbo.

ive delt with these guys before and saved a small fortune on WRX and Supra turbos.

those won't fit without some major modifications (even the T25 flange models)

If you want TD04's best is to get the Greddy kit or stick with Garrett (G)T25 based models..similar power output and much easier to fit.

I didnt think there was other Mods needed apart from oil feed/return etc etc, One of Greddys Kit use's TD04H-15G's with the t25 flange, and the Greddy kit just comes with Turbos. Is it not the TD05-16G's (Greddys more expansive kit) that needs new manifold etc etc?

>> Greddy kit just comes with Turbos

not quite...

custom downpipes, modified turbo compressor housings, modified wastegates actuators, custom intake pipes, oil lines and some other bits and bobs

What sort of boost/power will this kit push out.

with modifeid waste gates will these allow waste gate chatter ???

no only with external wastegates ;)

i thought the turbos the topless were selling looked a pretty good price and they are uprated items and new??

always difficult buying turbos hence why i would only go for a proven turbo like the greddy ones but they cost £££££'s

yeah but with most custom setups on any car your looking at Custom oil lines, intake etc etc. anyhow. Just i thought Greddy done a straight bolt on.

I build a lot of my own custom turbo kits, so none of the above would be a problem. I can get blank TD04 Exhaust flanges and make my own DP's up quite easily. This will be my 1st Zed project so could prove interesting.

On that note i had been thinking about designing a Turbo adapter to run a BB t3/t4 which bolts to stock mani but with an external Wastegate takeoff (Deltagate/Tial 35mm style) ;)

try Turbo Technics, did the turbo on my Lotus Elan 21k ago had boost turned up 1bar (0.65bar std) no prob's i did not have lotus fit it have a good mechanic who i trust with my car

I havent got external wastegates and boy do i have wastegate chatter !! majorly !! Its the compressor surge that also causes that sound , Not 100% sure on the zeds but by blocking of the recircs causes this. But there is a debate on how good it is for your tubby but no proven facts yet also all the high powered street cars dont run and dump valves or recircs. :hyper:

for you maybe, but for 99% of the people on the forum that are looking for new turbos and that do not have access to the right tools and materials probably not quite that easy (and cheap) :)
