I overtook an X5 and got up to about 80, and cos of the twitch at the back I gave myself loads of room for brakeing before a roundabout.

Well the car locked and went sideways while still going forwards, if that makes sense, off the brakes quick and a slight correction and I'm up the curb with front and rear nearside wheels, then off again and sliding to a stop at the roundabout.

I think I hit a bit of grease on the road but by furk it was scarey.

Glad to hear your Ok. Be safe out there as you know all of these cars are beasts and take time to be tamed.

Lucky no lamp post jumped out to meet you. Be safe

Yeah it still catches me out so I give it loads of leyway.

I think because I had let off the gas I was slowing down anyway, but it was like hitting ice.

CHrist mate, hope you're feeling a bit better. Bit of a scare, my auto does that on full kickdown in the wet and its not nice

thats crazy your heart must have been in your mouth.

as long as your okay thats all that really matters.

could have been much worse

Ijust hope some poor biker dosn't hit the same bit of road, I'm sure it was a bit of diesel or something. Like I said it was like hitting ice.

I went back to see if i could replicate the situation, but lost my bottle.

iv had some near accidents in the zed.

felt like with the standard rims on the zed got a mind of its own

You'd be mad to try, after my second sideways experience i just decided its time to drive sensibly in the wet till i get some traction control.

What happened to the leicester boys night out every wednesday?

thats why ive got a man ,with respect a lot of respect i mite add, you should be able to drive these like large go carts but your better of learning how they handle in wet cons on private prop, so when get a scare like that you ready,no one wants to learn the hard way, glad ok,PS the hicass is there to get your straght again asap so put that one down as an auto drive erro?

The auto is horrible in the wet, awesome in the dry and i'm seriously concidering a manual conversion.

I used to be able to drift granada estates round roundabouts at 60mph with no probs and i just don't have the bottle to do that in the auto. I've lost one auto in the wet to it deciding it'll change down two gears before so i'm very wary.

Frustrates me cause my mr2 was a manual and it was awesome to balance on the throttle and the chassis on the zed feels good but i don't trust the gearbox

I had my auto go full sideways on the way to my workshop to strip the car down last monday

Wasnt gassing it, but christ it let go big style when I went over patch of crap on the road, got off the gas pretty quick but the auto box seems to have a lot of inertia which continues to effect the car after you let up.

I'm getting used to it but.....I'm dreaming about a manual conversion :x:

Wasnt going more than 40....but I would have sh@t myself at 80

Glad you're ok m8.

Just been out again and the road is dry, luckily :p ,

Mines a manual so I don't have the gearchange thing happen, but what I will say is that i don't like the way the back end feels, its like sometimes its not there and others its well sorted.

I have been out and priced some tyres from my local bloke, he is damn good and cheap too, cos i have the jap tyres on and I don't like them.

I think this was my call to get seriuos with the back end.

Glad to hear not to serious a spin, would say its down to the rubber,if there original tyres from Japan they are renowed for being lethal on ours roads, especialy in damp wet conditions, normaly its the first thing to get sorted on these cars.

Tony

ps,go to JAB TYRES,great bloke ,great prices.

Did you hit your head on the pillar?

When mine thinks about stepping out I correct straight away unless there is room to drift, but I allways hit my head on the bloody pillar, FFS

  • Author

My head is too far back to hit the pillar.

If the tyres are anything like the one in Aus then they wil be leathal in the wet, they are made with a carbon compound and not silicon like ours, or is that the other way around I can't think I'm hung over.
