Are Zed headbolts stretchbolts? Do they need replacing when refitting heads? I recall reading somewhere that the headbolts on Zeds were not stretchbolts.

;) Even if they were there is specifications u should look at and if the bolts are within the specified tolerances then they can be used again. Usually twice.

It's done 150,000 miles though. Might be rebuilding mine. Have a couple of blocks. 1 seems to be in good condition. Have more than enough good pistons. Will rehone the block and fit good pistons will new rings.

It's a plan at the moment.

 HOW MANY TIMES DID I SUGGEST THAT lol

what the engine that on here? 150000 miles one

No to have his engine rebuilt. It would of saved him alot of time and money. Now he has two tired engines and an empty wallet. Ztech could of done rebuild without removing engine. But most specialists would of checked original engine before buying another. :x:

Option was given, It is all down to the customer at the end of the day, there will be no more discussion on this as it is unprofessional

the problem with headbolts is if they have been removed with the wrong tool,it can round the allen key type fitment therefor leaving you in a bad situation when it rounds completly, just clean them up and reuse them

Agreed it was Jason. I was fed up with the car and just wanted an exchange unit. Engine was inspected today and will be taking engine out inspecting block, if reusable will be rehoned, pistons will be measured, have some good spares if they are worn. New rings. Bottom end doesn't make any noise, so it's just the compression that's the issue.

Have a spare block in good shape as well if my one isn't up to scratch.

Work starts on Wednesday/Thursday. Also going to do the EGR and inlet coolant bypass. Be nice to have it back in full working order.

Thanks for your time today Jason. :)

You can do ur engine bottom end without removing it from car. It would be easier cheaper and quicker

you can remove rods and pistons from underneath, but you wont be reffiting them in a hurry :D

you can do bearings, crank&oil pump in situ though

Easier to drop the engine.... no point leaving it in situ if the heads have gotta come off for starters let alone doing everything else surely.

Hey Southwestzmech, can you put pistons in a Zed from the bottom with the engine in place, after honing of course.?

Yep dont see a problem there just need the correct tools to contract the rings and a honing tool that swivels easily. Y is that u need urs doing ? Surely you would get jason to do it as he is your sons best mate. LOL

Actually, I would do it myself, that is why I asked. I prefer to put pistons in from the bottom of the bore because of the lip caused by wear at the top. But I have never seen it done with the crankshaft in place.

I had a block. But it was scored. Unless you're going to sleave them and fit new pistons, then most likely not worth it. Although I think Jason may have junked it for me. I know of another one which needs sleaving.
