Fitting new shocks and springs very shortly and just wondered if there was anything else worth doing at the same time. Nothing too expensive but anything that may as well be done whilst its coming apart

Cheers

How about a Rear Strut brace? wouldn't like to take all the boot apart just to fit one. Depends if you fold rear seats down though or what you carry?

get someone else to do the shocks n springs, far too much hassle.

I'd done it on other cars, thought the zed would be straight forward, but oooh noo.

When doing the fronts jack the car up in the middle so that the wheels are unsprung, otherwise if you try to to one side at a time the roll bars and other gubbins have a sprung effect on the hub.

So when you finally prise the old shock out, the hub and all goes 'doing' (technical term) and no ammount of man power will enable you to lever enough force on it to enable you to get the new one in position as nothing will line up.

For the rears, a similar sort of thing happens even when unsprung. If youve got someone to help then all should be ok, but i did it on my own and ended up lying on my side using my leg to prise down the hub with a 6 foot wooded fence post whilst trying with my two arms to wrestle the new shock in place. Caused much amusement for passers by.

Oh yeah, dont forget to get new dust covers and bumpstops for your new shocks as your old ones will be shot.

have fun.

Sounds like you had lots of it. Don't worry, I don't intend to lift a finger. Ive attempted to do work on cars before and its always the little things that can go wrong and im waaay too imaptient. I don't have the tools for it and end up losing my rag halfway through leaving my car on axle stands and myself vehicle-less for a while.

Hence why id rather get everything done in 1 go to rather than have to shell out for a mechanic to do half the work to replace something he could do at the same time as this.

Thanks

I was quite content trying to do it but after being awake for about 21hours and had to get up at 5AM (it was currently 1AM) I had to call it a night.

I'm fitting my new Teins on saturday. Will post pics and problems on my rides sunday afternoon.Wish me luck !
