if i could find out what type of light it is, i can make up some inverters for people to replace broken ones without buying whole new rear panel :)

I think it's an Electro Luminescent Panel if it's the same as the DIY version - http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnettech/illrp/illrp.html ;)

my inverter is knackard so im trying to build/find replacement :P

Ill have an inverter if you find /make some my factory nissan green 300zx logo stoped working suspected knackered inverter thanks taff.

just been dismantling mine alot of black crap on it to stop you from finding out whats in there!!!!

Although i think i have it apart enough to see what it contains, will keep you posted

Yes I'd like to know as well as i thought it was just a bulb, i was planning to change it from green to red but not looked at it yet.

Let us know what its made of!

Mine also lights up green

It was an option on some JDM cars, usually green.

Mine lights up green too.

There was a red option too as green is illegal in the UK. Much rarer though.

AFAIK its an Electro-Luminescent Panel.

OK guys, for those that don't already know.........

In Japan ONLY there was a factory fit option of the rear panel being lite. This was ONLY available in GREEN, any other colour is a modded version. The factory ones are quite a robust (read Over Engineered!!!) unit, but they work on the same priciple as the modded ones, which is an Electroluminescent strip (two sheets, one which is positive and one negative, sandwhiched together) this receives a voltage of 110 volts AC across the sheet which then lights up. This voltage is received from the inverter (12vdc in 110vac out) which will get it's power supply from the lighting circuit somewhere.

With the aftermarket modded ones, you can choose whatever colour you like.

Another point to note..... Original OEM ones just have the outline of the 300ZX illuminated, but the factory ones from 1999 have the centre of the 300ZX illuminated (again only in GREEN, but I have seen a RED one) and the outline silver!

My 1990 has a green lit up logo, my 1991 doesnt. Both are jap autos.

There you go then, obviously the first owner of your 1990 one requested the option, and the first owner of your 1991 one didn't!

A genuine 1999 rear panel lite, with the red one, not lite, in the background...

My own (soon to be replaced by a replica 99 spec one, again in red) version that I built last year, that has since deteriorated, and is also now showing hairline cracks....

where can i get a red one and how much are they? PS my car passed the mot fine with the factory green one installed

where can i get a red one and how much are they? ...

You have to find some VERY nice person to do one for you, or try it yourself :D

Or unless you're very lucky and find one for sale... and I mean VERY LUCKY!!

Ive been told rs components do a replacement inverter for these panels im unsure of the part number .Ive questioned my local nissan dealer for a orginal nissan inverter but they told me they cant get part numbers for jdm dealer option parts.Mine has a green el panel which packed up soon after owning car thanks taff.

Hmm - at what point do they light up? TBH i've never looked at mine..

Do they only come on when the lights are on?
