Can anyone in all honesty say the Z32 manual gearbox is very good?

I know I am pushing the boat out with the BHP but people with even stock cars have their 4th gear syncros let go, even with a quick shift its as sloppy as a 1989 Ford Escort

I know the 350Z is 17 years ahead of the Z32 but Nissan really have got this box sorted. It is the BEST gearbox I have ever had the pleasure of using

Mac still in search of what to do about the Z32 box :wack: :wack: :wack:

talk about timing! just been asking about mine! having dramas in 4th, hope it doesnt ammount to much...

Had the car out tonight and it is really starting to piss me off now:(

Power does'nt affect syncro's, 4th gear uses a weaker syncro than the others, and can start to crunch with age when forced.....Go for a later 95 onwards box, Nissan fixed the 4th gear syncro in them.

p.s Both my zed's manual gearbox's have perfect gearchange, with no crunching :p

Nend bought a brand new 99 spec box and it lasted a few hundred miles so they are just as CRAP   ;)

Fooking hell!!! Was driving to work this morning and although (Touch wood very quickly) I've got no problems with my box but thought to myself how it could do with being a lot tighter... Don't know what a Z32 was like from new out of the factory but just think it's a little bit sloppy raher than just in and out if you know what I mean... You should get a nice solid change between gears...

Yes, it should be tight and solid. You need to replace your gearshift bushes - cheap but fiddly

Get the shifter bushes changed (couple of quid) and a short shifter from Z Centre and it's transformed.

Mine is as solid as a rock with only about an inch of movement to change gear.

Problem seems to be high speed changes from 4th to 5th in high power cars :(

Mine is crunching when I rev it out in 4th and do a quick change.

Maybe its a short shifter problem speeding up the change to much?

Crap? I don't think Ive ever read on this forum that the gearbox was shite? I like it (hope it doesnt go bump now lol) Its a bit on the tall side but that's what I like about it. I know you can't really knock it through the gears quick as with some other turbo cars, but then again it was designed as a GT.

Unreliable, Weak. that's another issue.

I have read lots of times that z32's with autoboxes are great to drive but unfortunately weak.

Mine is solid but rather heavy. Thought it would be lighter. It can be a bit notchy at times but never had it crunch.

Im trying Im trying. I gota get teh engine sorted 1st ffs. 1 thing at a time.

:hyper:

Mine is crunchy when cold if I'm not paying attention, but any other time its fine and rather a good gear change.

Mine is good apart from when i try to shift from 2nd to 3rd fast and miss the change. But im getting better

Havent 95 on gearboxes got double syncros .Mine had syncro problems in 4th at high revs .Mt 90 oil cured the problem fine now.

Nissan did try and sort the syncros out on the later boxes, however Nend bought a brand new 99 spec gear box and it lasted a few hundred miles

they aint designed to be used with that amount of power going through them

If i remember rightly the manual gearbox was given rave reviews, but that was when it was released 15 or so years ago. things seem to have gotten a lot better since then.

dont forget, whatever you do to your cars, its 15 year old technology at teh end of the day.

Mind you, you would of thought that in that time someone would of worked out what manual box would fit it and be bullet proof by now.

fookin told you to fit that third pedal when you fitted your manual box!!!

Fords of old had very good gearboxes for sure gear change. My first car was a Ford Orion that had a brilliant gearbox, though the rest of the car was from the Flintstones.

Fit an autobox! :wack:

Good plan. You want one that's had a fast road rebuild. ;)

 Admitadly the only fords I have driven have always been 10+ years old...but I would of said the complete opposite. Horrible sloppy things.

Plus they would shatter into a million little pieces with just stock zed power.

I'm sure it's been mentioned on here before but (don't mean to sware) what about fitting a Supra Getrag 6 Spd, GearBox... There supposed to be nails arn't they????
