well as i havent had any offers on the car im going to do some more work on it.

i intend to take the gearbox out and do a complete refurb on the plates and bearings, hopefully mike feeny can supply it for me.

just need as much information from those who have removed and replaced the gearbox, from those of you who have stripped a gearbox and refurbed also.

im due to buy a tt manual box of one of the guys here to practice on first. before i do mine.

so any info or help would be great, also any help getting the fooker out would be good also!! i can supply copious amounts of food, and drink oh and i can pay petrol money laos cos im nice like that.

i have decided to learn to do this myself rather than pay 600 to get it done..

woman like the idea of me not paying for it so if i dont fook the first one up then alls ok if i do ... then i pay!! lol

thanks

Wow,good on you mate. I'd love to come and help/learn how to brake a gearbox! but I'm miles away now. I left the gearbox in place when I did my old zed engine so don't know anything much about it anyhow.

The main problem is getting the gears off the shafts. You will need some special tools to extract these. :headvswal

to be honest mate, by the time you buy a spare box, then the parts and the hassel doing it, paying petrol etc your not going to save much, and you wont have any warranty on it mate.

personally, i'd pay and feel safe in knowing its right and covered for faults

nah i want to learn how to do it, on the spare i wont be fitting new parts just seeing how it goes together and then put it back together.. do it several times to get the hang of it, if i **** the spare up then i will have it done.

as for the pullers etc, i can get the kits from screw-fix and machine-mart.

Go for it mate!! there should be more Owners like you willing to take on a Challenge with there Pride and Joy!

And if all go's well you can hold your head up and say You did it and saved £'s doing it!

May cost you more time! but thats Free anyway :D

best thing is while the casings apart, i can take it to cwmbran have it cleaned up and then powder coated.

Here's a few pics i took with my phone when i did mine.

You will need a large 3 leg hydraulic puller and a small bearing puller set and access to a hydraulic press.

Removal of the box is surprisingly easy, the best tip i can give is remove the 4 boost hoses at the front of the engine and use a jack under the crank pulley to tilt the engine back slightly.

when your finished mate dont suppose your "spare" might be available? Im toying with the idea of auto-manual conversion but not immeidatly... and getting hold of the box isnt hugly easy.... (might go for 350z box if they sensible cash, but be nice to have this one when your finished..)

think zworld has 3 auto to manual conversion kits avalible at the moment, from what i remember.

These boxes come out easy, but putting them back is a b*****d, even on a car lift. Definitely a 2 man job, and probably even worse if being done on your back on the garage floor. TT types are quite chunky to lift just around the garage let alone trying to put 'em in.

I've had mine in and out by myself 3 times now on my back on the drive, tilting the engine back slightly make a huge difference, i struggled my ass off the first time before i figured it out.

Baz

is this the input shaft bearing?

Yes that's it.
