Howdy guys.

I was just wondering what my options were with regards to Air Filters ?

I have put K&N's on cars before, but to be honest I aint even looked at the filters on me 300 yet, only had her a few days :)

Do these cars have two filters ? and you you recommend say K&N over PiperCross ? or are there forced cold air kits you would recommend I spend me money on?

Many thanks.

Matt :)

ive got a blitz sus power filter on mine and it seems ok, although my maf is now fooked, but not sure if thats me driving age or the filter i put on

I would recommend Apexi for around 80 quid

Though i have a K&N at the moment.

Forget HKS as I have found them well are overpriced.

You will only need one filter by the way

Remember you my need to modify your splash guard to make it fit and some people have experienced problems with the MAF when using a vented nose panel unless you make a cover to stop the water dropping onto the filter.

As i said some people have had their own probs with some filters but i would say Induction is the way to go for sure!

ive had a k&n on mine which was good but ive recently changed it for an apexi which i think is slightly better.

Great guys thanks for the info :)

Apexi it is then..

OK so my next question is.. where can I find one ? and are they straight forward to fit ?

Many thanks.

Matt

Ebay for a start...

Easy to fit-take off nose panel and you will find the airbox which you will need to take off

then filter should come with an adapter to fit to you MAS (MAF)

Hi Matt,

Don't bother with the ebay ones for two reasons:

(1) many are so-called "universal fit" until you try and put it on your 300ZX MAF and find out it's not so "universal" after all, and

(2) there are a lot of "fake" ones being sold as the real thing.

Having said that, there are some original, proper A'PEXi's on there but would you want to take the risk?

I'm the official A'PEXi induction kit reseller on this forum and currently have two kits in stock (more on the way). The kit consists of the filter, a gasket, four fixing bolts and full fitting instructions (incl. instructions on how to remove the stock air box). Current retail price is £85 plus a fiver for Special Delivery (next working day).

Let me know if you'd like to order a kit - these are ready to ship now!

Regards,

Dan

filter1bc.jpg

Bog standard I guess.

Thanks for the link kamikaze.. wow that filter looks awesome :D has anyone got a pic of one installed ? I guess I junk the original filter box but what about that electrical connector that goes to the original filter box ?

Thanks for the offer there Dan, yes am interested mate, I got some bike boots and a helmet for sale on Evilbay which end next weekend, I will contact you then mate :)

Cheers.

Matt

That connector on top leads to the MAF BTW.

You will be keeping that part....til you go for engine management lol!

lol ok guys, thanks for that, Apexi filter for now it is then, much sexier than the standard nasty airbox, and I hope it lets it breath a bit better too :)

Dunno if they rasp any like a K&N will see.

Cheers for all ya advice much appreciated.

Matt :D

When you fit your new filter put some sealant in between the nose panel and the bumper, this will stop water from dropping on the top of the new filter and causing hesitation problems.

Do induction kits effect fuel consumption? With more air going in does more fuel go in too? or does it compensate since you dont have to push on the throttle as hard?

I don't reckon it makes any difference TBH.

Combined with an exhaust upgrade you *may* see a little increase in turbo boost pressure as the engine breathes better. The only increase in fuel consumption is caused by an increase in enthusiastic driving, taking advantage of the couple of extra horses released ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with official Apexi kits on sale on ebay, there is no risk at all with them, I understand you want to drum up business for yourself but it's wrong to slag off ebay traders who trade in official parts as opposed to the cheap copies which aren't Apexi branded.

I've learnt something here too, I'm getting an Apexi Power Filter this week for next to nothing off my mate's Evo 8, and its nearly new :D

Daz -

(1) I was only offering my honest feedback. I have had more customers order A'PEXi kits off me after having been ripped of by branded copies and so called universal kits they bought off ebay than I care to remember. Together with Smithy I am one of the longest standing members and traders on this forum and most people will agree that I am a straight forward and honest trader who will always offer unbiased advise even if it means doing myself out of a sale,

(2) I am not drumming up any business for myself - if you read my post carefully I do state that there are some reputable sellers on ebay but it is difficult to separate the good from the bad. 85% of my business is from non-forum owners, I therefore do not need to "drum up" business,

(3) so what if I seem to be "pushing" a product which I am authorised to sell on this forum - I think you'll find that I'm one of the least aggressive sellers on this forum, and

(4) I think everyone knows that you're taking a risk with every purchase you make on ebay. I take about 10 phone calls every week from people who've been sold a dodgy item or what I like to call "genuine fakes".

I know that there are reputable sellers on ebay - I'm one of them. I also know that it's important for people to know all sides of the story and be offered alternatives. At the end of the day it is the customer's choice which product he or she goes for and whether or not they purchase it through an established trader or through ebay (with the risks being what they are).

However, I draw the line at unrelated third parties telling me I'm drumming up business unfairly and slagging off other traders. I know of two reputable traders on ebay who sell A'PEXi gear, all others - as far as I'm concerned - need to be approached with a fair degree of sceptisism. You may get lucky and bag yourself a bargain genuine article, or you may not. And that is from experience, not hearsay.

Baz - make sure you get an adapter plate with it to fit the Z32 maf as the filter will have a different bolt pattern than a Z32 maf.

Rgds,

Can you buy separate adapter plates?

Or are they nearly as much as buying a whole new set?

I'm not aware of A'PEXi doing these anymore. They can be made to order but it's likely to cost around £30-£40 for one made out of powder coated mild steel.

Danny,

I'd be interested in one of those Apexi filters if you have any left.

No problem - got two left on the shelf at the moment.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.
