Just recently i,ve been getting the old smoke on tickover problem, but it,s only a quick waft of smoke and then it,s gone

Now today i removed my hard pipes (which are Stainless ones ) on the n/s which is the side that smokes occasionaly , am i right in thinking , if the tub seals were on there way out i would have a coating of oil or at least some dirty looking coating on the insides of the hard pipes as mine are still clean and shiny ???

Am i right in thinking It,s gotta be my PCV valves, hopefully :hyper:

Also it,s sprung a water leak , seams to be coming from behind and below the n/s throttle body and dripping down onto the a/c pump but can,t see where it,s coming from , does this sound like i need to do a plenum bypass ? and if so can it be done without removing the plenum ?

Cheers in advance Allan

hi ive done all my pipes and the p.c.v,s still smokes like a $£@£ time for the tubs! its worth a try though ! mine started when i put on a big bore system and its had the cats removed!

Mine has started to smoke ever since I put a mongoose back box on (has been decated for 3 years previously) the strange thing is it will smoke at 900rpm but at 950rpm not a trace of smoke! I have tried PCV and pipe replacement but no differance, 50rpm is the differance between it smoking and not smoking!

It's worth changing the PCV's also make sure its not over filled with oil.

Have a look at the guides to removing the collant under the plenum. I didn't do it myself, it was done before I got the car. I think (although might be completely wrong) that it comes out and goes to the turbo coolant feed which is an absolute bugger to get to; down the back of the engine. Theoretically if you can find and get to the feed pipe and the end pipe then you can just connect the too together and leave all the tubing under the throttle bodies.

I'm just thinking there is a coolant feed just under/behind the plenum near the throttle position sensor (next to the passenger hard pipe). Maybe you nudged this while playing with your hard pipes?

boldy if you have a leak from under plenum/throttle body,a turbo bypass, will fix the leak and bypass all the under plenum feeds!not to bad a job

as for smoke is it from cold idle/under load or backing off?

Hiya greg , it happens when it,s warmed up ,i can be just pootling back from work , stop at a set of lights and on tickover occasionally i,ll get a puff of smoke from the n/s ,by the time it,s passed the car i look in the side mirror there,s no more smoke

Do you know if there,s a diagram of how to do the bypass with the plenum in place , i,ve got the one with the plenum off and there seems to be pipes going all over the place . :headvswal Thanks

well you got the bypass info,im sure manta will give you a hand

as for smoke when warm and at idle, might be worth doing the pcvs&related hoses, could be just oil getting back in to the intake, then go from there ;)
