Has anyone used these to find leaks?

I have a bloody air leak on my car which is causing it to run lumpy and stall at junctions.

Im beginning to think i have a crack in my plenum.Would a smoke bomb placed where the maf goes find this? The problem is its drawing air in,but surely what goes in must come out.

Anyone?

Steve.

I was thinking of putting it my vacume leak tester and blowing a small amount of air if nothing comes through.

put the smoke bomb next to the intake of the aire pump uesd for the leak detector lol

mate. if you have a leak detector, get yourself a mechnics stethoscope, only about £5 and gor roound the engine and listen, trust me you soon hear the leak

Ive done this allready.Phill at C+S Woods reckons it could be a cracked plenum as the leak is immposible to find with all the other methods.

Also the air intake valve is screwed right in which was bought like that of a forum member.I also think if it was screwed half way out where it should be the car would not run.

another trick for finding leaks is to spray carb cleaner around suspect area while engine is running, when engine revs rise youve found leak. only do it a few squirts at a time and make sure non of your coils are tracking etc dont want engine going up in flames.

or wd40 works the same and far less volatile

check the plenum bolts for tightness in case one or more have pulled threads making it loose on the gasket to the manifold joint. Saw this on mates.
