just got some new brembo discs arrived 2 days after ordering!! yay! good price too, just need to fit em... hope its now too involved, do i need to disconect and blead brake lines or can i keep them on by moving caliper to one side? then unbolting the 4/5 bolts on rear and fit new disc?

You can just unbolt the calipers and move them to the side. Once setaside you can get at the disks. Job done,

 

Some clever clogs will come up with a link on how to do it on one of the tech sites soon no doubt.

Make sure you support the caliper while it is unbolted or you will damage the rubber brake hoses, and this is generally considered to be a bad thing!

Paid 150 to door, pads + drilled groved brembo discs, i got the guys number, just gunna fit them myself saturday and if all goes well ill let you know, just i wanna make sure they fit etc first, as i got the contact through a friend of a friend.

 

im just wondering how the disc fits on, there is only two threaded holes, then 5 in a pcd obviously for the wheel studs. i looked in the service manual but the one thing it dont show is disc removal :(

The 2 threads are for two bolts to go in to push the disc off the hub.(well thats what i use them for anyway!)

 

Honestly mate its an easy job and shouldnt take more than an hour to do both.

so the disc is just an interferance fit with the hub then? if so it will need force to get back on? could just use wheel nuts i suppose..

Well i found the discs are just really like a spacer between the hub and wheel.

Use two bolts threaded into the holes you talked about to pull the disc off as they will probably be corroded/rusted on.

The new discs will just slide in over the stud bolts and hey presto.

When you get the old ones off mate always a good idea to clean the hub where the disc sits with some emery cloth,then a smear of copper slip to fit the new ones. ;)

i know thats why i snapped em up :P my old discs are worn beyond belief, min thickness is 28mm recommended i think, mines prob 26/27 lol,

he said he does rears for £100 too

Make sure the pistons are not seized in the calipers , did mine a couple of weeks ago and one was seized solid , seems to be a problem with these cars, just keep twisting and moving it until it feels free ,don't pull it all the way out of the caliper that wiil cause more work / problems.

The pistons tend to stick when the pads are low for a long time .Push the pistons back with a crow bar or big screwdriver and lever against the old disc as it doesnt matter if you damage the old discs.Also keep an eye on fluid level when pushing pistons back soak with kitchen roll if too full dont spill on bodywork.Copper grease shims and pins and backs of pads.Degease new discs with spirit.

friggin thing, cant get the bolts out that hold the caliper on :( im well gutted, as far as i can see its the 2 (19mm spanner) bolts at the rear of the caliper,

jacked the car up and tried using two spanners together etc and still nothing. cant get torque wrench in as floor in way, anyone in nottingham area have airgun or somthing and could help me??? gunna try again tomorrow with my brother but i think there seized pretty good :(:(:(:(:(:(:(, thought i would be able to do it b4 i went out today :(!!

Might be a stupid question but have you soaked the bolts in WD40 or similar.

 

Whatever you do DONT snap the bolts off!

Try WD40 as it soak into the thread-im not sure oil will do anything.

I used a breaker bar on mine after soaking with WD40 or similar and they came off quite easily. They wouldn't budge with a spanner or socket though.

did you just have the car jacked up though, i cant get anything else in their :(

Jack it up with wheel off and you should havem plenty of room to get a long bar in there.

And turn the wheel as far as it will go. I had mine on axle stands but I'm fairly sure it can be done with the car just jacked up. You only need to use a long bar to turn the bolt a bit - once it's free you should be able to use a spanner.

Give them a squirt of Plus Gas, WD40 is useless.

ill go halfords in morning see what penatraion oil's they have etc.
